Not sure on flights or your budget overall but we stayed at Riad Al Bartal and it was by far the best place we stayed at in Morocco. Beautiful place and really amazing hosts. We flew to Paris and then got a separate cheap flight to Fes.

Are you planning on traveling anywhere else in Morocco? I had flown into Marrakech from Lisbon and stayed a few days before taking a train to Fes. I stayed at Riad La Perle De La Médina and it was $70CAD a night. It was a 5-10min walk to the Blue Gate.

Exploring Fes on a Budget

Fes, the cultural and spiritual capital of Morocco, is a captivating destination that offers a unique blend of history, architecture, and vibrant traditions. If you're looking for an affordable way to experience this enchanting city, here's the cheapest way to get to Fes and where to stay.

Getting to Fes on a Budget

One of the most cost-effective ways to reach Fes is by taking a train from major cities like Casablanca or Marrakech. The train ride offers scenic views of Morocco's diverse landscapes and is significantly cheaper than flying. Depending on your starting point, train tickets can range from $10 to $30 for a one-way trip.

If you're already in Morocco, you can also consider taking a shared taxi (grand taxi) or a bus. While these options may take longer, they are generally more affordable than trains, especially for shorter distances.

Affordable Accommodation in Fes

Fes offers a wide range of budget-friendly accommodation options, from traditional riads (traditional Moroccan houses with an interior courtyard) to hostels and budget hotels. Here are some recommendations:

Riad Dar Bensouda

Tucked away in the heart of the Fes Medina, Riad Dar Bensouda is a charming and affordable riad that offers a authentic Moroccan experience. Dorm beds start at around $10 per night, while private rooms range from $30 to $60 per night, depending on the season.

Hostel Rent A Dream

Hostel Rent A Dream is a popular budget hostel located just outside the Medina walls. It offers dorm beds starting at around $8 per night and private rooms from $25 per night. The hostel has a rooftop terrace with stunning views of the Medina and provides a lively social atmosphere.

Hotel Zalagh Parc Palace

If you prefer a more traditional hotel experience, Hotel Zalagh Parc Palace is an excellent budget-friendly option. Located just outside the Medina, this hotel offers comfortable rooms starting at around $40 per night, including breakfast.

No matter where you choose to stay, Fes offers a wealth of cultural experiences, from exploring the labyrinthine alleys of the Medina to visiting historic sites like the Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque and the Chouara Tannery. With careful planning and a bit of adventure, you can experience the magic of Fes without breaking the bank.
