Took advantage of the Chris Myden posting re Manila and Tokyo deal and will be heading to Tokyo next week. Any advice on Tokyo Disney vs Tokyo DisneySea for my 9 and 10 yr old? Any other must see's in the short 2 days we are in Tokyo?! Thanks in advance!

We did Disney Tokyo last year. Although it was nice to see the rides were all in Japanese and none in English. I also did not find it to be very big park. It was basically everything you would see in California but in Japanese. We did not do sea world.

We also went to an onsen. It’s a Traditional hot spring/traditional bathing area. It was the highlight of our trip because it gets you into the deep culture

Is there one in the Tokyo area? I've only heard of onsens out of the city

Personally if only two days in Tokyo I'd skip Disney.

Takeshita street, on a rickshaw ride, hop on hop off bus tours, meiji shrine, ramen house or cafe.
I'd take them to do stuff that is unique to Tokyo.

Japan is crazy entertaining as it is. Go to a robot show or something. Do touristy stuff. Rent some traditional clothes (kimono, yukata), go visit castles etc. So much to do. No need for Disney.

If you will be in Tokyo next week you have a very good chance of seeing the Sakura trees in full bloom. That would be a great time to go viewing and have a picnic under the trees which is a very popular thing the Japanese do. Checking out the view from the sky tree or the government building is something not to be missed. Im sure your kids would really enjoy a stroll down Akihabara (an anime district.). Lots of lights and people dressed up!

Is the Tokyo tower the same thing as the sky tree? That is definitely on our list.. Better to do in the day or at night?

I would say the day cause then you can see how far the view goes. Or at least before the sun sets. They are two separate towers but the sky tree would have the farthest looking view because it's almost twice the height.

I also agree that a day trip to Disney may not be worth it but if wanted I would recommend Tokyo Disneyland the family. Enjoy your trip! I will also be heading to Tokyo next week

I did Tokyo Disney Sea 15 years ago and loved it. I'd recommend that, as it has some unique features that aren't in other Disneyland's around the world.

We’ve been in both last year with our 4 year old. There were more things to do and see in Disneyworld than Sea. The lines were ridiculous 2.5 hours to some attractions the rides last only 2 mins and everything they explain to you on what to do in the beginning is in Japanese, so no understanding on that part

Thanks for all the input everyone! Appreciate all of the insight! Any more you have is still welcome!

Would recommend VR parks (just google, we went to the one in Shinjuku area), good way to spend an afternoon or morning. Also if kids like Pokemon, they have Pokemon themed cafe/ shopping centres. There is also a Snoopy Museum in Roppongi .

Tokyo Disney Resort: Tips for a Magical Adventure with Kids

Congratulations on snagging a great deal for your upcoming trip to Tokyo! With only two days to explore, you'll want to make the most of your time in this vibrant city. While Tokyo has plenty to offer, a visit to the iconic Tokyo Disney Resort is an absolute must-do for families, especially with kids aged 9 and 10.

Tokyo Disneyland vs. Tokyo DisneySea

Tokyo Disney Resort is home to two incredible theme parks: Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea. Both parks offer unique experiences, but if you have to choose one, I highly recommend Tokyo DisneySea for your family.

Tokyo DisneySea is a one-of-a-kind theme park that immerses guests in the worlds of classic Disney tales and adventures. From the volcanic Mount Promethean in the Lost River Delta to the charming Mediterranean Harbor, each land is beautifully crafted with intricate details that transport you to different realms. The park's signature attractions, such as Journey to the Center of the Earth and Sindbad's Storybook Voyage, are not to be missed.

While Tokyo Disneyland is a classic Disney park with familiar lands and rides, Tokyo DisneySea offers a more immersive and unique experience that truly sets it apart. Your kids will be awestruck by the stunning visuals and imaginative storytelling that bring these fantastical worlds to life.

Other Must-See Attractions in Tokyo

With your limited time in Tokyo, you might not have much opportunity to explore beyond the Tokyo Disney Resort. However, if you do have some extra time, here are a few must-see attractions to consider:

  • Sensoji Temple: This ancient Buddhist temple in Asakusa is a cultural icon of Tokyo, with its iconic red lantern and bustling street markets.
  • Shibuya Crossing: Experience the organized chaos of one of the world's busiest pedestrian crossings in the vibrant Shibuya district.
  • Harajuku: Immerse yourself in the quirky and colorful world of Japanese youth culture in this trendy neighborhood, known for its fashion, street food, and lively atmosphere.

No matter what you decide to do, Tokyo is sure to leave a lasting impression on you and your family. Embrace the magic, soak in the vibrant culture, and create unforgettable memories together!
