Check the CDC website. They have the whole country of Mexico on the Zika list. But they would have more info (and a more direct source with accurate info than Facebook)

You're wrong because the species of mosquito that carries Zika doesn't live past certain elevations, like in Mexico City, for example.

Also if you are planning to have a baby in the next year don’t it lives in sperm for up to a year and can cause problems

I live in Mexico. Zika IS here. Malaria...we honestly "laugh" that we are on that list. Zika, Dengue, Chikungunya, are what we have here.

I overheard a nurse at a travel health clinic in Vancouver a few years ago saying that yes, they must take malaria pills if visiting Cabo San Lucas. I could only hope that she was thinking of someplace else. Only place I ever took malaria pills was India.

It is crazy. Puerto Vallarta isn't on the Malaria list. However, Bucerias Nayarit (about 20 minutes north of PV) is on the list. I guess the mosquitoes must know this an stop at the state border LMAO.

We just came back from Huatulco, and did not encounter any mosquitoes. I think it makes a difference if you are hiking in the jungle, and visiting in the mountain areas rather than staying in the urban areas and beaches.

It is more if you stay on a resort or hotel. They spray often. I always wear off 365/year as there are always mozzies here

We stayed in Crucecita, just off the square.

We’ve been to PV Sayulita and La Manzinilla Jan/feb quite a few times. I never get mozzies

We go regularly to PV. (December) This year I had bites, extremely itchy. We stay at the same resort every year.
Also a few years ago I could not be a blood donor because I had been to PV within the year. Before that it was just if I went north of PV, that I could not donate.

Zika Virus in Huatulco, Mexico

As of April 2023, there are no reported cases of Zika virus in Huatulco, Mexico. However, the virus is still present in other parts of Mexico, so it is important to take precautions to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes.

The Zika virus is spread through the bite of an infected mosquito. Symptoms of the virus can include fever, rash, joint pain, and conjunctivitis. In severe cases, the virus can cause birth defects in pregnant women.

There is no vaccine or specific treatment for the Zika virus. However, there are steps you can take to prevent being infected, including:

* Wearing long sleeves and pants when outdoors
* Using insect repellent containing DEET, picaridin, or IR3535
* Staying in air-conditioned or screened-in areas
* Using mosquito nets when sleeping

If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, it is important to talk to your doctor about the risks of the Zika virus.

For more information on the Zika virus, please visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website: https://www.cdc.gov/zika/
