I went to the UK last year. I took my unlocked phone to Tesco and it wouldn't accept their Sim. Used Skype when I had WiFi. If you have a Skype account you can call a land line. Good luck!

I was living in London last year, and went on a month by month contract with Vodaphone. I think it was £15, and included texts, calling and data. I had no problems with their SIM card. Enjoy your time xx

Hello Veronika, I just asked essentially the exact same question a few weeks ago and got some very helpful tips!! Here's what I'm going to do:
1. Purchase a cheap unlocked phone here (because it's cheaper than unlocking my iPhone and I'd like it to be on local settings so I can use it when I come home)
2. Buy a SIM card and a month to month plan for THREE in the UK.
3. Pay the (extremely low) roaming fees while I travel
4. Cancel plan before coming home
I have a friend in London who currently has a $20/month plan with three with unlimited calling, unl data and very minor roaming charges. That seems, by far, the best option.

3 mobile had a £12.90/month no contract plan. tons of data and you can pay regular rates in 13+ other countries. can't beat it.

Hi fellow travelers! I'm just looking for some advising regarding cell phones & plans in Europe. I will be in Europe for 3 months-- first two months in England and then 1 month across western Europe. I have an unlocked phone I can bring with me.
