Question:

My girlfriend and I are going to the Big Island and Kauai. Anyone have any recommendations for cheaper/nice places to stay in Kona and Kauai? Also, maybe any other places worth spending nights on the big island? Thanks.

The cabins in volcano national park were cheap(ish) and really cool! Very basic (like camping) but the location was perfect. Definitely worth heading over there for at least a night. In Kona, we found a really good deal on hotwire for our hotels (we stayed in two different ones) The seaside hotel was super basic but walkable to everything and the royal kona resort was a bit nicer and right on the water but not sure it was worth the extra cost so we ended up going back to the seaside hotel (we booked each night as we went along)
The nicest place we stayed was the Doubletree in Hilo however I wasn't a huge fan of Hilo. If you do the full island then you may want to spend a night here.
I posted a blog with all our stops as we did the full island in 6 days. Feel free to message me if you have any questions!

In Kauai we stayed at Kuhio Shores, it was pricey but right on the water. A cheaper option across the street is Prince Kuhio. Great location in the south at Poipu where not as much rain. As far as Big Island, it’s always worth using vrbo and emailing owners. Make them an offer, we have gotten some better prices than what’s listed depending if they are wanting to get their place rented quickly. Enjoy!

We did a vrbo last time we were there, it was a decent price. You'll need a car though. And make sure you go to Green Sands Beach at South point. Only two in the western world and is something else to seem

We LOVED Aston Islander on the Beach in Kauai. So much, we're going back in November. Central location, right on the ocean and reasonably priced.
