Traveling to Tokyo next month with grandparents, a 3 yr old and twin 2 year olds.
We have arranged accommodation and will do a couple days at Disney but would appreciate your suggestions for a couple days itineraries which would be ok for both adults and kids ( three of the adults have been to Tokyo)
Thank you in advance

I think parks will be your friend. Try Ueno -- it has a zoo as well in it -- and Shinjuku Gyoen. You might also want to head to the Studio Ghibli Museum.

Do you have connections in Japan? All I know from travelling with a child is keeping the itinerary very simple and including lots of time at the park is key. I wish you well!! Enjoy.

Family-Friendly Itinerary for Tokyo with Grandparents and Little Ones

Tokyo is a vibrant and exciting city that offers something for everyone, regardless of age. While the bustling metropolis may seem overwhelming at first, there are plenty of kid-friendly attractions and activities that will delight both the little ones and their grandparents. Here's a suggested itinerary for a couple of days in Tokyo that will keep everyone entertained.

Day 1: Exploring Tokyo's Parks and Gardens

Morning: Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden

Start your day by visiting the beautiful Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, a tranquil oasis in the heart of Tokyo. This sprawling garden features traditional Japanese landscapes, including ponds, bridges, and meticulously pruned trees. The kids will love exploring the vast lawns and feeding the friendly squirrels. There's also a playground area where they can burn off some energy.

Afternoon: Ueno Park

After a picnic lunch, head to Ueno Park, one of Tokyo's most famous parks. Here, you'll find the Ueno Zoo, which houses a diverse collection of animals, including pandas, gorillas, and polar bears. The park also boasts several museums, such as the Tokyo National Museum, which houses impressive collections of Japanese art and artifacts. For a more laid-back experience, rent a boat and go for a leisurely paddle on the park's lake.

Day 2: Interactive Experiences and Cultural Immersion

Morning: Ghibli Museum

Start your day by visiting the whimsical Ghibli Museum, dedicated to the works of the renowned Studio Ghibli animation studio. This museum is a must-visit for fans of Hayao Miyazaki's films, such as "Spirited Away" and "My Neighbor Totoro." The museum features enchanting exhibits, a theater showing exclusive short films, and a delightful rooftop garden. Be sure to book your tickets well in advance, as they tend to sell out quickly.

Afternoon: Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum

After a lunch break, make your way to the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum, a unique outdoor museum that showcases traditional Japanese architecture from the Edo period (1603-1868). The kids will love exploring the reconstructed buildings, including a samurai residence, a kabuki theater, and a traditional farmhouse. The museum also offers hands-on activities, such as calligraphy and origami workshops, providing an engaging cultural experience for the whole family.

With this itinerary, you'll be able to enjoy the best of Tokyo's parks, gardens, and interactive experiences, while also exposing the little ones to the city's rich culture and history. Remember to take breaks as needed and keep hydrated, especially during the warmer months.

Enjoy your time in Tokyo and create lasting memories with your family!
