Easy peasy! Just need to ensure you’ve paid for the animal to be on the plane both ways & have all required paperwork - up to date shots etc. When you call to book the animal on the plane just double check what all paperwork you required to have with them as it may have changed. (Much like everything else)

The consulate shows Mexico's requirements. The airline might be able to help clarify. Check with the airline as well as they have their own requirements. To return to Canada, I just show my proof of vancinations.

We just flew today with our dogs in the cabin (under the seat) from Calgary to Los Angeles. It was with westjet and they didn’t ask for a single thing.

Brittany Wow really? Hmm, interesting! Did you have paperwork and shots all good to go in case they did ask?

You should have a valid rabies vaccination and health certificate from your vet because Canada would prefer it upon return.

Milou Rye-Banner I have flown with my 2 chihuahuas to France, UAE, Germany, Netherlands, and the USA. That is usually all they all want.
(Not the UAE)
I just adopted a dog in Mexico in October and she only needed her health certificate and valid Rabies for Canada Customs. For westjet they didn't ask for anything.

Flying with Dogs from the US to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

As pet owners, we often want to bring our furry companions along on our adventures, especially when traveling to destinations like the beautiful Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. However, navigating the regulations and requirements for flying with pets can be a daunting task. In this blog post, we'll explore the experiences of fellow travelers who have flown their dogs (in soft kennels) from the United States to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

Paperwork and Requirements

According to the experiences shared by travelers, the following paperwork and documentation are typically required when flying with dogs to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico:

  • Valid Rabies Vaccination Certificate: Your dog must have a current rabies vaccination certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian. This certificate should include the dog's description, the date of vaccination, and the expiration date.
  • Health Certificate: Many airlines and destinations require a health certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian within 10 days of travel. This certificate confirms that your dog is free from infectious diseases and is fit for travel.
  • Microchip or Tattoo: Some airlines and destinations may require your dog to be microchipped or have a unique tattoo for identification purposes.

It's always a good idea to check with your airline and the Mexican authorities for the most up-to-date requirements, as regulations can change without notice.

Overall Experience

Based on the experiences shared by fellow travelers, flying with dogs to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, can be a relatively smooth process if you follow the necessary guidelines and regulations. Here are some common observations and tips:

  1. Airlines and Pet Policies: Different airlines have varying pet policies, fees, and restrictions. It's crucial to research and book with an airline that allows pets in the cabin and has clear guidelines for pet travel.
  2. Advance Preparation: Ensure that you have all the required paperwork and documentation well in advance of your travel date. This will help avoid any last-minute stress or issues.
  3. Soft Kennels and Size Restrictions: Most airlines require pets to be in soft-sided kennels that can fit under the seat in front of you. Be sure to check the size restrictions and purchase an airline-approved kennel.
  4. Hydration and Potty Breaks: Keep your dog hydrated during the flight, and be prepared to take them for potty breaks during layovers or connections.
  5. Puerto Vallarta Arrival: Upon arrival in Puerto Vallarta, you may need to present your dog's paperwork to the authorities. Follow their instructions carefully and remain patient during the process.

Overall, while flying with dogs requires extra preparation and planning, many travelers have reported positive experiences when following the proper protocols and regulations.

Remember, it's always a good idea to consult with your veterinarian, airline, and local authorities for the most up-to-date information and requirements specific to your travel plans.
