Check if you need a return and get a ticket out of Thailand to closest airport - even if you don't go - its better to be safe than returned home!
Simon
Or booka fully refundable ticket out of the country and then get the refund once in the country.

FYI you are only allowed upto 60 days in Thailand on a tourist visa. So it's a good idea to have some kinda of itinerary to show that you don't intent to stay past the 60 days

I've asked this at a variety of places and most people haven't had a problem, that being said its not worth not being allowed in after flying so far. What we did was buy a cheap air Asia flight. We got tickets to Siem reap for $83 (not suuuuuper cheap) but it's the cost of visa, then a $43 flight if you look at it that way. Or you can do what they say above and buy a refundable flight. We just knew we were going to Cambodia after, and having been there before it was worth it to me to not have to do a land crossing again. Canadians do get 30 day visa exemption but you have to show proof of onward travel and apparently bus/boat tickets don't count.

I used to travel frequently to Bangkok until 2011 and although I always had a return ticket, I was never asked for proof. I was only ever asked to show the return tix printout in HK and Singapore.

I was never asked to show my return ticket and I flew in and out of thailand about 8 times.

I have been grilled a number of times when traveling on one ways and once in Japan had to provide multiple documents to show proof of a working visa in Canada. Always have a plan to leave, strictly speaking you could actually be turned away at the Thai Airport upon arrival if they feel they aught to.

u can actually travel by land to other countries. so tell the officer that if they ask why u dont hv return tkt

I'd like to have your problem

I landed in Bangkok yesterday afternoon. Immigration Officer did not ask me any questions and did not ask for proof of departure from Thailand.
This was my 7th time through airport immigration in Thailand since May, 2014. I haven’t once been asked a single question, including whether I had an onward ticket. That's no guarantee they won't ask you, but I would be surprised if they did.

You could also buy a train ticket to Malaysia

Out if canada you should be fine .

Last year we were in Dubai going to Bali , they wouldn't let my brother go with one way ticket ! He had to buy a ticket out of Bali so r just bought the cheapest ticket to Malaysia. They did tell us it was an airline policy not an airport policy .
Tara
^^ I agree that it is most likely airline policy as I had to have a ticket out of the country when i was on my way to Thailand (and this was departing out of canada)- but i met other travellers who had no plans and therefore no outbound tickets which had no problem entering Thailand

It depends on the country and difficulty the country has experienced w people staying. Right now, in Thailand, it does not appear to be an issue but it could change overnight. Many counties I have travelled to require proof of leaving the country. In other words, it is not the return tckt, it is proof that you are not staying on.

No Return Flight Booked for Thailand Trip
If you're planning a trip to Thailand without a return flight booked, you may be wondering if you'll face any issues with immigration. Let's explore this topic in detail.
Thai Immigration Requirements
According to Thai immigration regulations, visitors are not necessarily required to have a return or onward ticket when entering the country. However, immigration officers do have the discretion to ask for proof of onward travel or sufficient funds to support your stay and eventual departure from Thailand.
Potential Risks
While not having a return flight booked is not strictly prohibited, there are a few potential risks to consider:
- Denied Entry: Immigration officers may deny entry if they suspect you do not have concrete plans to leave Thailand or if they believe you may overstay your visa.
- Proof of Onward Travel: You may be asked to provide proof of onward travel, such as a confirmed flight or bus ticket to another country. Without this, you could face additional scrutiny or potential denial of entry.
- Financial Proof: Immigration officers may request proof of sufficient funds to cover your intended stay in Thailand, as well as your potential onward travel expenses.
Tips for a Smoother Experience
If you plan to travel to Thailand without a return flight booked, here are some tips to help ensure a smoother experience with immigration:
- Have a Flexible Travel Plan: While you don't need to book all your flights upfront, have a general idea of your travel plans and intended destinations after Thailand.
- Carry Proof of Funds: Bring bank statements, traveler's checks, or other financial documents to demonstrate that you have enough funds to support your stay and potential onward travel.
- Acquire Appropriate Visas: If you plan to stay in Thailand for an extended period, ensure you have the necessary visas or visa extensions to cover your intended stay.
- Be Prepared to Explain: Be ready to provide a clear and concise explanation for your travel plans, including why you have not booked a return flight and your intended next destination.
Remember, while not having a return flight booked is not strictly prohibited, it's always wise to be prepared and have a well-planned itinerary, as well as sufficient financial resources, to ensure a hassle-free experience with Thai immigration authorities.

Does anyone know if I will get hassled with immigration for not having a return flight booked from my trip to Thailand. I only have a 1 way booked as I want to travel around to other countries and not sure when I want to come back home yet!
