We did bus tour a year ago. Very, very long day. Would fly & do it another time or stay in Vegas one - two days less and spend night there.( or close)
Kimberly
The tour buses are expensive, I would just rent a car between the 5 of you. I agree with maybe spending the night there or close. The bright angel trail is great for hiking/sightseeing. Are you guys athletic? If so there is a lodge at the bottom on this hike.
Lesley
we have done both .I recommend the car you have more freedom
Chris
We did the helicopter tour. Was amazing.

Renting a car is much cheaper and you can rent it on the strip in venetian. I hope they are still there.
Cindy
We rented a car and stopped at Hoover Dam on the way there. We went to the Grand Canyon entrance with the skywalk and did that. We enjoyed that but def not recommended for anyone with a fear of heights. It was a good day.
Geoff
Not sure if it’s still in operation, but we did a day trip down the Canyon( part way down) riding mules.......that was in the early 70s. Quite the adventure.
Fred
Rent a car. Overnight at Williams, Arizona, cheaper than staying at hotels at the Grand Canyon , only an hour away. If an Eagles fan drive to Winslow Arizona, also an hour from Williams.
Sandy
Rent a car ,its worth it less time to spend on road
Katrina
Rent a car! You still have to pay to get on a bus and go around to different spots once you get there (depending on where you end up going to view). It’s super worth having a car and driving though. Do it at the beginning so you can go and grab snacks and drinks somewhere off the strip/out of the downtown core, for your stay lol.

For 5 people I'd rent a car, but when I went solo I used the company below and it was great! Very small tour compared to bus with 40 people... https://www.grand-adventures.com/grand-canyon-sunset-tours/

Vania thank you for the info. Having company from Norway with us and this tour looks great. Do you feel you saw and experienced enough of the Grand Canyon that day?
Vania
Marit I went to the South Rim with them, so it was a VERY LONG day, and I only had one day available to do that, so a day tour it was! It was tiresome, but that place is unbelievable! Did I see everything I wanted? Not a chance! Was it worth it? Def. yes! I went in February and it was super cold, so we did not walk around much. We opted to drive to few lookouts instead, which was easy because we were 10 people only on the tour the day I went (they have a max of 14 or 15 if I am not mistaken). Our tour guide was fantastic!
Nathalie
Id rent a car. It’s a drive but then you can overnight there and enjoy your trip. Plus Route 66 and hover dam are a plus
Laurel
Rented a car, did Hoover dam, grand canyon and death valley. Skywalk and death valley worth the trip.
Patricia
We did it by helicopter..then landed in the bottom of the canyon! It was spectacular
Melanie
Car rentals inVegas are super cheap and most are in one big terminal with shuttles to/from main Airport - most hotels have free parking anyway ..
Stephani
A couple of years ago we wanted a car for 5 of us. It was like a 5 to 6 hour drive with a stop at the Hoover dam. With a five or six hour drive on the way home too we where pretty pooped! It was a long driven for a quick view of the Grand Canyon. But I am glad we did it, or I probably never see the GC in my life. I'd say do it.

Visiting Las Vegas and Grand Canyon: Rent a Car or Take a Tour Bus?
Planning a trip to Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon can be an exciting adventure, but deciding on the best mode of transportation can be a bit tricky. With a group of five people, you have a few options to consider, each with its own advantages and disadvantages.
Renting a Car
Renting a car is a popular choice for many travelers visiting Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon. Here are some pros and cons to consider:
- Pros:
- Flexibility: With your own car, you can explore the areas at your own pace and make spontaneous stops along the way.
- Cost-effective: Renting a car can be more economical than taking a tour bus, especially for a group of five.
- Privacy: You'll have the privacy of your own vehicle and won't need to share space with other travelers.
- Cons:
- Driving fatigue: The drive from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon can be quite long, and taking turns driving may be necessary.
- Parking fees: You'll need to factor in parking fees at hotels and attractions in Las Vegas.
- Navigation: Navigating unfamiliar roads and finding parking spots can be challenging, especially in busy areas.
Taking a Tour Bus
Another option is to take a tour bus from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon. Here are some pros and cons:
- Pros:
- Convenience: Tour buses offer a hassle-free experience, with knowledgeable guides providing information and handling all the logistics.
- Safety: Professional drivers familiar with the routes ensure a safer journey.
- Sightseeing opportunities: Tour buses often make stops at various viewpoints and attractions along the way.
- Cons:
- Cost: Tour bus packages can be more expensive than renting a car, especially for a group of five.
- Limited flexibility: You'll be bound by the tour bus schedule and may have less freedom to explore at your own pace.
- Crowded: Tour buses can be crowded, and you'll need to share space with other travelers.
Ultimately, the decision to rent a car or take a tour bus depends on your group's preferences, budget, and desired level of flexibility. If you value freedom and want to explore at your own pace, renting a car might be the better option. However, if you prefer a more guided and hassle-free experience, a tour bus could be the way to go.
No matter which option you choose, make sure to plan ahead, book accommodations and transportation in advance, and research the best routes and attractions to make the most of your trip to Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon.

Five of us are going to Vegas in September and wanting to see Grand Canyon too. Any advice on renting a car or take a tourbus would be appreciated. Thanks.
