Go to Nicaragua, it's so cheap it doesn't matter if you are single
Rachel
A lot of travel companies offer a 'club' for single ppl who can meet and travel to destinations together if there's someone you click with. I've traveled single for years. You learn the resorts that don't have a single supplement charge.

look up Charles Whitford on meetups.com, he has one of those clubs mentioned above.
As for cheap countries, what others are there that are (relatively) safe?
Irene
Thanks to all. I would not have thought of Nicaragua as safe option for singles.

If you have much time, travel to Southeast Asia. Though the round-trip ticket may cost ~$1000, hostels are extremely cheap. You can find a private room for $5- $8 in Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and this rate may include breakfast.

Vacationing Solo: Tips and Tricks for Saving Money
Introduction
Traveling solo can be an incredibly rewarding experience, but it can also be challenging when it comes to finding affordable deals. Many travel packages and promotions are geared towards couples or groups, leaving solo travelers to navigate the waters of finding the best deals on their own. In this blog post, we'll share some tips and tricks to help you save money while vacationing solo.
Be Flexible with Dates
One of the best ways to save money on solo travel is to be flexible with your travel dates. Airlines and hotels often offer discounted rates for travel during off-peak seasons or on specific days of the week. Use travel search engines that allow you to search for flexible dates and compare prices across multiple days or weeks.
Consider Single Supplements
Many travel packages and cruises charge a "single supplement" fee for solo travelers, which can significantly increase the overall cost. However, some companies offer reduced or waived single supplements during certain periods or on specific itineraries. Do your research and look for deals that cater to solo travelers.
Book Accommodations Wisely
- Hostels: Hostels can be an excellent option for solo travelers on a budget. Many hostels offer private rooms in addition to dorm-style accommodations, providing a balance of privacy and affordability.
- Vacation Rentals: Websites like Airbnb and VRBO can offer more affordable options than traditional hotels, especially if you're willing to share a rental with other solo travelers.
- Hotel Reward Programs: If you frequently stay in hotels, consider joining their reward programs. Many offer discounts, free nights, or upgrades for loyal members.
Seek Out Solo Travel Discounts
Some travel companies and tour operators offer discounts specifically for solo travelers. Do your research and look for companies that cater to this niche market. Additionally, consider joining solo travel groups or clubs, as they often negotiate discounted rates with travel providers.
Travel During Off-Peak Seasons
Traveling during off-peak seasons, such as shoulder seasons or low seasons, can often result in significant savings on flights, accommodations, and activities. While the weather may not be ideal, the cost savings can be substantial, making it a worthwhile trade-off for budget-conscious solo travelers.
Conclusion
Vacationing solo doesn't have to be prohibitively expensive. By being flexible with your dates, considering single supplements, booking accommodations wisely, seeking out solo travel discounts, and traveling during off-peak seasons, you can enjoy an affordable and memorable solo vacation. Don't let the fear of high costs hold you back from exploring the world on your own terms.

Most sites only do 2 people and they either don't give you the option to change it, or if they do the price is still that of 2 and when you go into book all of sudden the price changes drastically.
