Where is the best place to stay in NYC for a family trip in April?

Question:

Hello, so I am traveling to NYC with my parents and my husband for 3 night in April. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where to stay, best location and least expensive? We are thinking Brooklyn or Long Island City but I'm open for suggestions and just want an easy commute to Manhattan.

Look in and around Queens. Brooklyn has some lovely historical areas, but there's also a lot of sketchy places where even when I was living there, I wouldn't go. Long Island is nice, but difficult to get to Manhattan on transit, unless you take the LIRR to the subway, then the subway the rest of the way into the city.
Best of luck!

I stay in West Harlem/Morningside Heights, anywhere near a subway stop. That way, you get to stay in Manhattan.

2 years ago I went in April and stayed at the Hampton Inn in Soho. It wasn't too bad $140 a night Canadian. Parking was expensive and theres a $13 toll coming in to manhattan that i was unaware of. 2nd time I went i stayed in Queens, the bus system is horrible there but the trains are wonderful.

If you aren't going for a couple months, then you should be able to find hotels around Times Square or the Garment district for under $200 a night. If you are going soon, book in Long Island. We stayed at NYC Z Hotel, they had a free shuttle to times square went every hour. A couple times we walked a couple blocks and took transit, it was easy and cheap.

Check out the Marriott at Times Square. It is worth a few extra bucks to be in that area. I think their rooms are well under $200.
