Hey! I have a lot of experience in Mexico City as my husband is from there. Luckily Mexico City has improved in terms of safety lately, but still use caution of course. The metro has a special section for women only so that's a start, but uber is also very popular and inexpensive to get around. Do you know what area you will be staying in? There is so many recommendation I can make to you but I don't know where to start!
Kathryn
I'll be staying at the St Regis on Paseo de la Reforma...looks central and I was able to get a friends and family rate!
Marie
That's a great area. I am sure you'll feel safer there than in many places in the city. There are a lot of great bars and restaurants there too, although usually on the pricier side. If you are into Museums, Mexico City has some amazing options that I highly recommend in your spare time. I don't know any details of the butterfly migration so I can't help you there but if you need any other recommendations please let me know

Marie Amaro I love museums...studied pre-Columbian art in university. Any in particular or suggestions on tours of Teotihuacan?
Marie
Wow! That's amazing. There are so many choices then. The museum of anthropology is amazing. I've been at least 5 times and I'm always learning new things. Museo Dolores Olmedo is in the south and has a large (used to be private) collection of pre Colombian and modern art (plenty of Diego Rivera and some Frida Kahlo). If you go to Teotihuacan, I've heard that there are tours but I also saw this bus line at the Central de autobuses del Norte (one of the large bus stations). I don't know the prices or details. Just avoid Sunday because it is free for Mexicans and it is crowded ( not sure about other days). I've seen tours taking place but I don't know how they were arranged.
Marie
This is the bus line, I believe it is to the far left of the station when you enter. Good luck!

Marie Amaro Thx for all the info!

You should check out G Adventures monarch butterfly itinerary. I have travelled with them twice as a solo female and had amazing experiences both times. Other solo females on the both trips I did. Made life long friends and travel buddies.

Mexico Monarch Butterfly Trail

Too funny! That's the exact trip I'm looking at. I did Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand with them last year and loved it.
Have you done the Monarch butterfly trip?
Helen
Kathryn I have not. I just know they offer it so wanted to share it on this post. Thought it might be helpful. I've done India and China with GAdventures. Amazing company.
Kathryn
Helen may I ask which India trip you did? Still looking at the golden triangle.
Helen
Kathryn I did a Delhi to Kochi tour (link provided). And I tacked on the G Adventures Varanasi Experience to the beginning of the trip. That was independent (not a group itinerary) but I had someone with almost the whole time.

Kathryn if you can manage the time and money, I would highly recommend doing more than just the golden triangle. Varanasi is an absolute must when visiting India. It's the oldest and most spiritual place in India...maybe even the world. And it's the place I loved the most during my trip.

I went to Mex. City alone, and was overwhelmed by how great it was. I stayed right downtown, and walked everywhere and anywhere alone. With bright blonde hair, it is fair to say I stood out, and couldn't blend in. I went to the pyramid and loved it, but I just saw another post about another one that is a bit farther away but worth seeing. The modern museum is not to be missed - fantastic. Bon voyage.
Silvia
The Museum of Anthropology and the Museum of Modern Art for sure. My female buddy and I were there couple of years back and felt quite safe downtown. I agree that things have improved safety wise.
