Done both...would suggest Cuba. To see how they have suffered for years yet remain a friendly charming people. While I hope this Change improves their quality of life, I hope the good is not is not lost as well. FYI. At our resort the waiters had different colors of shirts on denoted their "status"...brown shirts were "volunteers" who often worked over a year for no wage in the hopes of one day enjoy the privilege of being a busser or eventually a waiter. We met one executive assistant to the president of a pulp and paper factory...she made at that time $11 a month, the best jobs we were told they make $80-$90. Monthly food allotment from govm't atrocious. Yet all are entitled to a free university education.

Cuba before the U.S. Tourism machine spoils it.
Tricia
Cuba. They are the most friendly people. Plus I feel much safer in Cuba than I did the Dominican.
Carolyn
I loved the Dominican and the food was awesome. Cuba's people and beaches were amazing, but the good was beyond bad.... And I went prepared for that and it was so much worse than expected.
Olunda
Cuba...go for nothing less than a 5 star as then you will be in a 3 or 4 star. Their standards are not up to other countries but you will enjoy the wonderful people and the education
Deborah
DR is much friendlier...I wouldn't go back to Cuba..it was terrible. And yes, if you do go..book higher stars. We stayed at a 4.5 and it was a 3 by Carribean/Mexico standards.

Dominican Republic is a better option in terms of quality of hotel services and food. Punta Cana. http://www.tripadvisor.ca/SmartDeals-g147293-Punta_Cana...

Dominican, for sure. Cuba was fine, but I wouldn't go back. The resorts are older and the beaches aren't as nice.
Ildi
Dominican for sure. Nice all-inclusives. By the way, our condo is located at the #1 beach in Mexico according to tripadvisor. Doesn't anyone ever go to Tulum?
Cathy
it depends on the type of vacation you want. As others have already stated, D.R. has many higher end, nicer resorts and better food. Cuba has wonderful, less crowded beaches, friendly people, fewer people harassing you to buy souvenirs, and a very interesting history, but the hotels and food are not as great. If you go to Cuba, go into Havana for at least a day. You can go with a group which is less educational but maybe more fun. We took a local bus, and had arranged to meet a guide for 4 hours who walked us all over the city giving us a wonderful tour and lots of history. It was awesome. He charged us $40 for four hours. And as has been said, by next year, it will be overrun by Americans.

cuba for sure varadero
Janna
Cuba. Safe, lovely, incredible ppl

Hi Bailee - we loved the Dominican - haven't been to Cuba b/c I've always been concerned about the quality of the food. After having done all-inclusives for 10 years we're converted to cruising now. Princess. Fabulous accommodation, food! facilities, & entertainment. Similar in cost, maybe even less $$, plus 3-4 different ports where you can do a variety of excursions and activities. Princess has a fabulous kids' club. If you don't have kids Princess would still be ok or there are other lines that are more adult/less kid friendly

Dominican.....I hated the food in Cuba.....if your doing an all inclusive in Cuba make sure you go 4 stars or more. By about the 3rd day in Cuba I was done with the food. Lots of history though in Cuba especially if you go into Havana.
Mary
Check out shelly's sun & sand facebook page.....she has an all inclusive offer right now that you will get to see a very real side of the Dominican ...a very beautiful side
Gilbert
Dominican-lived there for awhile, lots to do and people are friendly
Iaan
Definitely Cuba. Reason is that it won't be long before its opened to the U.S. and when it is, the Cuba we know and love today will be gone.
Cyn
Either you love Cuba or hate it, personally I love it! Friendly people. The food esp food geared for tourists is yucky, eat what they eat and a bit of hot sauce and its good esp fruit!
Iaan
For Cuba you need to get out of the all inclusive a though. They are beautiful and have great beaches, but the food sucks. The food outside of the all inclusives is great!

Cuba! But try and avoid the all-inclusive. Havana is one of the most stunning places on the planet.
Donna

All Inclusive Dominican or Cuba: Which One Should You Choose?
When it comes to planning a tropical getaway, the Caribbean islands of the Dominican Republic and Cuba are two popular destinations that often come to mind. Both offer stunning beaches, warm weather, and a vibrant culture, but which one is the better choice for an all-inclusive vacation? Let's dive in and explore the pros and cons of each destination.
The Dominican Republic: A Tropical Paradise
The Dominican Republic boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean, with white sandy shores and crystal-clear turquoise waters. Popular destinations like Punta Cana and Puerto Plata are home to numerous all-inclusive resorts that cater to every taste and budget.
Pros:
- Diverse range of activities, from water sports to golfing and exploring historical sites
- Lively nightlife and entertainment options, especially in Punta Cana
- Variety of cuisine, including local Dominican dishes and international flavors
- Relatively safe for tourists, with a well-developed tourism infrastructure
Cons:
- Can be more expensive than Cuba, especially for higher-end resorts
- Potential language barrier for non-Spanish speakers outside of resorts
- Some areas may experience overcrowding during peak seasons
Cuba: A Taste of Authentic Caribbean Culture
Cuba offers a unique blend of Caribbean charm and Spanish colonial heritage. With its pristine beaches, vibrant music scene, and fascinating history, Cuba is a destination like no other. While the island has fewer all-inclusive resorts than the Dominican Republic, the ones that do exist provide an authentic Cuban experience.
Pros:
- Affordable all-inclusive packages, making it a budget-friendly option
- Rich cultural experiences, from salsa dancing to cigars and classic cars
- Opportunity to immerse yourself in the local way of life
- Unspoiled natural beauty and eco-tourism opportunities
Cons:
- Limited amenities and activities compared to more touristy destinations
- Potential language barrier, as English is not widely spoken outside of resorts
- Infrastructure and services may not be as developed as other Caribbean islands
- Restrictions on travel and activities due to political situation
The Verdict
Ultimately, the choice between the Dominican Republic and Cuba for an all-inclusive vacation depends on your personal preferences and travel goals.
If you're seeking a more traditional Caribbean experience with plenty of activities, nightlife, and luxurious amenities, the Dominican Republic might be the better option. Its well-developed tourism infrastructure and diverse range of resorts make it a convenient and comfortable choice.
On the other hand, if you're looking for an immersive cultural experience, a taste of authentic Caribbean life, and a more budget-friendly option, Cuba could be the perfect destination. Its unique blend of history, music, and natural beauty offers a one-of-a-kind adventure.
Whichever destination you choose, an all-inclusive vacation in the Dominican Republic or Cuba promises to be a memorable and relaxing escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
