Where to stay in Tokyo, Japan?

Shibuya/Shinjuku/Harajuku are the most central but also the most crowded. If I ever went back, I’d probably stay in Asakusa as it’s a bit more chill and also near to quite a bit of stuff.

Length of stay? Budget? Where will you travel in Tokyo and will you be travelling out of town?
Andrew
I stayed at Remm Akihabara (in Akihabara) and Hotel Musse Ginza (in Ginza). Both are great areas and reasonable prices. Both close to transit.
Janna
You can get almost anywhere within Tokyo in about 20-40 mins on the subway and JR trains. We were a bit further out near Oku station in a quiet neighborhood so it's really what vibe you want and your budget.
Kristy
Stayed at the sunroute shinjuku before and it was very convenient. A couple minutes walk from the trains. Also it is a stop on the airport limousine bus to and from the airport so that’s an option as well if you have bigger luggage’s.
Koto
Kristy we stayed here too! nothing fancy but above average quality for its close location to shinjuku station, even closer to the newish south terrace expansion.
Sapphire
I like retiring to a quiet neighborhood at night so we chose Ginza.

Minato ku was great. I stayed at the Tokyo grand hotel. It was not fancy... but cheap. I loved it.. the room was very small... but u got a tv, tea kettle, fridge, fancy toilet with bidet and heated seats, soaker tub, and I got a view of the Tokyo tower. I paid 700 bucks for 12 nights back in 2019.. if u don't mind it being a bit dated... and cramped. It's great!!!! Service was awesome... had 2 restaurants. Close to major train stations.... conbini right beside on either side.

Hotel Gracery in Shinjuku. Close to the station, great location. And a well stocked 7-11 downstairs for all your snacking needs!

I second Andi's recco for Air B&B by a Tokyo Metro/JR subway line. Most include laundry machine and A/C as well

Near Shinjuku Station - a hub that connects to everywhere including the airports. There are lots of hotels in the area

Grand Hyatt or the Ritz Carlton

This is way too broad of a question. It’s a massive city with like 10,000 hotels. And costs that range from budget to head of state.
My suggestion is to get on google hotels or whatever search engine you like, and just search. Then filter to a price you’re comfortable with. Then from there pick one that’s close to a metro station. Tokyo has stations all over so you’re never very far from one but it makes seeing the city much easier.

Sotetsu Fresa Roppongi was nice with the extra amenity items and great breakfast in a relaxed simple atmosphere for a compact affordable room.

It also depends on your plans. We knew we'll travel a lot to other cities so we chose a hotel close to Tokyo Station. But if you only stay in Tokyo is up to you, how much you want to pay and the level of comfort you are looking for.

Shinjuku - The train station there is epic, central to everything and will get you anywhere you need to go. There are a bazillion Hotels to chose from but as said above the Gracery (godzilla hotel) is nice, as is the Prince hotel where we stayed when we were there.

We stayed at Richmond Inn at Asakusa just behind Sensoji temple. It was a really fun neighbourhood and close to transit as well. The melon bread at the bakery behind the temple is really delicious.

Sunroute Shinjuku, Hotel Gracery, Prince Hotel Ikebukuro, Tokyo Stay Shinjuku are a few good choices.
Marshall
Stay in a capsule hotel!
Renee
I lived in Japan for a few years and loved Kichijōji. Definitely a quieter artsy area. All depends on what you are after. Hotels were more reasonable too but that was years ago.
Ruby
Anywhere near the JR Yamanote Line! I stayed at an air B&B that honed other woman ( all from Japan! ) Had my own room with shared accommodation. Made new friends and was much cheaper then the small hotel I first stayed in!
Carla
My vote is stay in the Asakusa area…..very walkable and lots to see.
