Yes!!!! I have been to both. They are both quite small, so just walking around is the best in terms of things to see and do. Godspeed if you are flying vueling to Catania, though. It is a huge mess. Catania can get a little bit sketchy at night, but it was my favourite place. Love the fish and fruit market in the mornings. Go to Prestipino and get brioche and granita for breakfast (also highly recommend the st. agatha's nipple pastry.) It is right by the fontana dell'elefante and the piazza del duomo. Go to Trattoria di De Fiore for dinner, it's one tiny old woman who cooks for the whole place. It was a 5 course meal and I don't think I have ever been so full in my life. Siracusa is the place to go swimming in the ocean. It's warm and there are a lot of pebble beaches. Really nice. La Darsena da Ianuzzo is great for dinner there too, the squid ink pasta is unreal.

Catania was awful when we were there in 2001. Looked alot like Beirut. Mount Etna would be the only attraction; when we were trapped there for three days, waiting for a ferry to Malta, the volcano was spewing ash and was completely off-limits.
