How should we spend 4 days between Amsterdam and Copenhagen?

We are ending a trip with friends in Amsterdam next August 2017. After touring in Amsterdam for a few days we have roughly 4 days before we need to be in Copenhagen to board a Northern Europe Cruise. We are looking for some ideas of how best to spend that time. We will not have seen much of Germany (but for having stopped in Munich from Switzerland before a cycle trip from Passau to Vienna) We will be arriving in Amsterdam via Prague by air. We are still deciding whether to go to Berlin off the cruise..may just hang around the terminal area instead of taking the 3 hour train ride into Berlin. Have looked into the Cologne area and Rhine cruises in Bacharach and Marksburg. Thought about Rothenburg…so mainly Western Germany. Anywhere else?Thoughts?

We did a Northern Europe cruise, got off at Warnermunde went to Berlin. Next day was a sea day then day after was Talin. We flew and joined the ship there. We loved Berlin and hotel prices were good too.

Thanks, great idea, but we do enjoy the sea days otherwise we would travel by train and/or air.

What to Do in Western Germany Before a Cruise

You're ending a trip with friends in Amsterdam next August and have about 4 days before you need to be in Copenhagen to board a Northern Europe Cruise. You've already toured Amsterdam and are looking for ideas on how to best spend your time. You're interested in seeing some of Western Germany and have looked into the Cologne area, Rhine cruises, and Rothenburg.

Here are a few ideas for how to spend your time:

  • Cologne: Cologne is a beautiful city with a rich history and culture. Be sure to visit the Cologne Cathedral, one of the most famous landmarks in Germany. You can also take a boat tour on the Rhine River or visit one of the many museums in the city.
  • Rhine Cruise: A Rhine cruise is a great way to see the beautiful Rhine Valley. You can choose from a variety of cruises, from short day trips to longer overnight cruises. Along the way, you'll see castles, vineyards, and charming towns.
  • Rothenburg: Rothenburg is a medieval town that looks like it's straight out of a fairy tale. The town is surrounded by walls and towers, and the streets are lined with half-timbered houses. You can visit the Town Hall, the Imperial City Museum, or simply wander around the streets and soak up the atmosphere.
  • Heidelberg: Heidelberg is a university town with a beautiful castle. The castle is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Germany, and it offers stunning views of the city and the Neckar River. You can also visit the Old Town, which is full of shops, restaurants, and bars.
  • Munich: Munich is the capital of Bavaria and a great place to experience German culture. Be sure to visit the HofbrÀuhaus, one of the most famous beer halls in the world. You can also visit the Deutsches Museum, one of the largest science and technology museums in the world.

These are just a few ideas for how to spend your time in Western Germany. With so much to see and do, you're sure to have a great time!
