What to Do in Western Germany Before a Cruise

You're ending a trip with friends in Amsterdam next August and have about 4 days before you need to be in Copenhagen to board a Northern Europe Cruise. You've already toured Amsterdam and are looking for ideas on how to best spend your time. You're interested in seeing some of Western Germany and have looked into the Cologne area, Rhine cruises, and Rothenburg.
