I don't think so. I'm 5' and I was ok. Usually, The measurements are 1 meter by 2 meters. So about 6'5" ?

My husband and I stayed at one in Osaka, he is 5'11, and he didn't fit. Well it was just his feet, he had to sleep with his knees bent the whole night. If you're on with that, then it's a lot cheaper for people traveling solo.

My husband is 6' 11" and in Japan even in the hotels his feet were hanging over the edge of bed by about 2 feet!

Try here: https://ninehours.co.jp/en/narita/ I stayed here last summer. It's brand new & they seemed roomier (but my 5'7" might not be the best indicator).

Capsules don't work for tall guys. I'm 6'6" and found that this hotel was the best priced, most centrally located, and 10 mins from a subway stop. Free breakfast, free hot/cold spa, english speaking staff.

I'm more worried about your subway experience. Yes, they're very navigable, but you'll be hunched over the whole time if you don't snag a seat.

Lots of foot room in the Love Hotels!

I would not suggest it. You might be able to squeeze in some but I doubt it would be comfortable in any of them. The one we were in were like single bunk beds that they put walls around.

6'5" here.
I would definitely not recommend capsule hotels. Maybe try it one night just to see how it is and get the experience but it will be a very uncomfortable night. Regular hostels are much better on the joints.

I recommend using manga/internet cafe instead. You certainly won't be able to stretch out, but the cubicle is more of a square so you have a bit more room to move around.

Tall Travelers in Japan: Capsule Hotel Considerations

Japan is a fascinating country with a rich culture and unique traditions. One of the most intriguing aspects of Japanese hospitality is the concept of capsule hotels. These compact and affordable accommodations offer a unique experience for travelers, but for those towering above the average height, they might pose a challenge.

What are Capsule Hotels?

Capsule hotels are a form of budget accommodation that originated in Japan. They consist of small, capsule-like units stacked side by side and vertically, providing a private sleeping space for each guest. These capsules are typically just large enough to accommodate a single person lying down, with minimal room to sit up or move around.

Tall Travelers and Capsule Hotels

If you're 6'7" (around 2 meters) tall, fitting comfortably into a standard capsule hotel might be a challenge. Most capsules are designed with the average Japanese height in mind, which is generally shorter than the Western average. The typical capsule length ranges from 6 to 6.5 feet (1.8 to 2 meters), which means that someone of your stature would likely have to sleep in a curled-up position or with their feet hanging out.

However, there are a few options to consider:

  1. Modified Capsules: Some capsule hotels have recognized the need to accommodate taller guests and offer modified capsules with extra length. These capsules are typically located on the bottom row and can provide a more comfortable sleeping experience for those over 6 feet tall.
  2. Private Rooms: Many capsule hotels also offer private rooms, which are essentially small hotel rooms with a bed, desk, and basic amenities. While more expensive than a standard capsule, these private rooms can provide the necessary space and comfort for taller guests.
  3. Alternative Accommodations: If capsule hotels don't seem like a viable option, consider other budget-friendly accommodations in Japan, such as hostels, guesthouses, or even regular hotels. These alternatives may offer more spacious sleeping arrangements for taller individuals.

Regardless of your accommodation choice, it's always a good idea to research thoroughly and communicate your height requirements in advance to ensure the most comfortable stay possible.

While capsule hotels offer a unique and affordable experience in Japan, their compact design can pose challenges for taller travelers. With some flexibility and prior planning, however, it's still possible to enjoy this cultural experience while finding a comfortable sleeping arrangement that suits your needs.
