Europe is easy to travel solo on your own! I book day tours instead so that I have more flexibility overall. For SE Asia there are a lot of solo travellers too, but it depends on your comfort and confidence level. If you're willing to branch out I found Japan is extremely safe and easy to travel solo on your own as well. Most tour companies allow solo travellers but may charge a solo supplement and/or team you up with a roommate. I'll leave suggestions to others regarding tour companies as I have not used any (yet).

have you done much solo travelling in these areas? Looking at going in just over a year, safety factor has me worried more than anything and i enjoy company not used to doing alot on my own but like the fact that i can do all of my own planning
Sherene
Liisa I was in Italy partly solo for a trip in October and Japan last year completely solo. And France solo in 2012. I wouldn't do it by myself in a country that I didn't feel comfortable in. but most of Europe is I think ok. I'm thinking about possibly Netherlands or Ireland next.
Hong Kong I've been to by myself and it is easy to get around as most signs are in English and a lot of people still speak English. I've been to Malaysia but mostly with family so I can't really give you solo advice there.

Liisa If you want, feel free to private message me and I can give you more specific advice.

Contiki is for a lower age group. Look at Flash Pack and Cobblestone Freeway. Flash Pack is for solo travellers that are in your age group and their tours look amazing. Cobblestone is out of Edmonton and I know a lot of people that have gone on their tours and loved it. I actually go solo sometimes and have a great time. I have a contact as well in Morocco that would be good for a solo female. We used him for 2 females on a trip a year and a half ago. He does group trips as well.

I have been to Europe and to SE Asia but nvr traveled by myself, my daughter has traveled the world by herself i just don't enjoy being alone and it does scare me and the safety factor but just because it scares me im sure it would also be very empowering at the same time. I have always researched every trip myself and nvr gone through a tour and i cant afford hotels on my own and the idea of a hostel is ok with me as then i am hoping to meet other travelers and not be alone. Thanks for all the in depth info about those other places. I do have some single friends that would prob do some trips with me, I do like planning out my trips on my own
Shelley
Ecuador was also great and we met many that were travelling alone and would join with them for a tour. The hostels there were inexpensive and were really small hotels, many offered breakfast as part of the room rate. It is scary, the first time that you travel alone but you will gain confidence and it will be better......you may also meet others like yourself and gain friendships, maybe even a travel partner! Happy trails
Pat

Heather

Choosing the Right Tour Company for Solo Travel
After going through a breakup with your long-time travel partner, it's understandable to feel a bit hesitant about solo travel. However, embarking on a solo journey can be an incredibly rewarding experience that allows you to explore at your own pace and discover new aspects of yourself. To ensure a memorable and enjoyable trip, choosing the right tour company is crucial.
Why Tour Companies?
While booking your own trips can save you money, traveling solo can sometimes be daunting, especially in unfamiliar destinations. Tour companies offer a level of convenience, safety, and camaraderie that can make solo travel more enjoyable and stress-free. They handle the logistics, provide knowledgeable guides, and give you the opportunity to meet like-minded travelers.
Tour Companies for Europe and Southeast Asia
Based on your preferences for a fun and adventurous experience without a "seniors" vibe, here are some tour companies you might want to consider:
1. G Adventures
G Adventures is a well-known tour operator that offers small group tours for travelers of all ages. Their tours cater to various interests, from cultural immersion to active adventures. They have a range of options for Europe and Southeast Asia, including hiking trips, food tours, and city explorations.
2. Intrepid Travel
Intrepid Travel is another excellent choice for solo travelers seeking authentic experiences. Their tours are designed to provide sustainable and responsible travel opportunities while allowing you to connect with local communities. They offer a variety of tours in Europe and Southeast Asia, from cycling trips to trekking adventures.
3. Contiki
While Contiki is primarily known for its tours geared towards younger travelers, they also offer trips for those in their 30s, 40s, and beyond. Their "Contiki Legends" tours cater to a more mature crowd, providing a mix of cultural experiences, social activities, and unique accommodations.
Tips for Choosing the Right Tour
- Read reviews from fellow solo travelers to get a sense of the group dynamics and tour style.
- Consider the tour pace and level of activity to ensure it aligns with your preferences.
- Look for tours with a good balance of structured activities and free time for independent exploration.
- Inquire about the group size and age range to ensure a compatible travel experience.
- Check the company's reputation, safety policies, and commitment to responsible travel practices.
Embarking on a solo adventure can be both exciting and daunting, but choosing the right tour company can make all the difference. With the right tour operator, you'll have the opportunity to explore new destinations, make new friends, and create lasting memories.
