Hey guys! My younger brother and
I have May 17-23rd off and were thinking of going somewhere for a week. Contemplating Barcelona, Amsterdam, or somewhere Central America/Carribean (Curacao, Jamaica, Costa Rica etc..). Looking to see where we can go for cheap, and base our destination primarily off what we can get a good flight for.
Any input or recommendations? If we find a cheap flight to Barcelona or some such, off we go

As Kerry shared, United (yikes) has a $647 round trip flight to Costa Rica + groupon has a $899 6-day adventure package (hotel included).

Remember, Groupon is usually in US funds.

6 days is not a really long time for a Europe trip. Perhaps Costa Rica would be more fulfilling?

The flights to and from CR can be a bit of a milk run. westjet has started offering direct flights but they're expensive.

You could do Europe but focus on only one or two cities

I was considering that as well. I'm not shy about travel time though, even if we do a 24 hour flight to get to Tokyo and only have 3 or 4 days there, I'm open to seeing what comes up. I tend to wing it a lot hahahaha.

We went to Japan. Definitely not the cheapest place but the flight length isn't bad and it is totally worth seeing!

Yeah I have been wanting to visit Tokyo for ages. I loved my time in Hong Kong but it's a whole lot different.

If you go there, take the bullet train down to Kyoto.

I love Barcelona but getting there is time consuming. Air Iceland has connecting flights. Last year, we stayed at Nouvel Hotel, just off the Ramblas. Great location! And a decent price. However, you could stay in Iceland too...

My brother just spent two weeks in Iceland not even a month ago.. overnighting in Reykjavic would be okay but probably wanna spend a few days elsewhere

Try Bali, your dollar will stretch a lot further there than Japan. However Japan can also be done with a tight budget, but 4 days is not really not enough to get a taste of Tokyo esp if you have nor been.

Already done Bali, and a bit far on a 6 day schedule. Though I'd love to go back... ahh

I don't think there is anywhere in Europe that is "cheap" and especially since our dollar is trading at $1.47 today.

Yeah. I've had a few friends get lucky, one recently had a round-trip fair to Amsterdam for $500ish. But it's really hit or miss.

if you want amazing beaches and cheap everything else including flights... go to Nicaragua ... short cheap flight.. amazing weather and cheap to eat and drink!!! Central America...

use expedia or others like that... we went to El Salvador and rented private beach house in Costa Del Sol.. much cheaper that hotel.. might be able to do that in Nicaragua on the beach .. check vrbo for private listings and bookings

I've had great success with airbnb and was leaning towards that, but vrbo is new to me, may have to check it out thanks for the tip

El Salvador uses US dollars though so more expensive

I use vrbo and just booked a two bdrm condo in Thailand for 53 bucks a night right on the beach ...

Barcelona is amazing

Costa Rica is expensive.... we were in Belize n on our way down learned about inexpensive, beautiful places in south, east Mexico, Bacalar (sp). They have incredible weather, beautiful water, ceynotes
. Inexpensive. Good food. Fly to Cancun, then take an Ado bus from airport, very nice air conditioned buses every half hour. Mexico is cheap.....
