Looking for day trip ideas out of Vancouver that don’t require a car (I don’t drive).
Any suggestions would be great!

Karleen Lynn canyon and nature house are free and you can get there by bus.

Lynn Valley via bus. You can hike the Baden Powell trail.

Sunshine coast. Almost everything you need to see there can be accomplished in a day and using their great transit system.

Heather you really do need a car.

Christin There are local buses on the island from the ferry straight to Sechelt. Also fairly easy to get around on a bicycle.
But..I do prefer having my car there.

I live here we are not an island. .. mainland. . And no you need a car.. to see the good stuff.

Christin sure thing. I'm not originally from here and still discovering and exploring BC. Forgive my faux pas.
I personally find that area easy enough to get around without a car. But I definitely prefer a car, so I can see even more.

I bike and bus and the Sunshine Coast a few times a year, including beach hangs in Roberts Creek, camping at Smuggler Cove and Porpoise Bay, and Rogue music fest.

Bus to Tsawwassen and walk or cycle onto the ferry to Scwartz Bay. The Galloping Goose Trail into Victoria is easy and fun though recommend staying overnight.

Ferry to Victoria area. Butchart gardens or downtown or to Sidney.

UBC - bus to UBC.
All attractions in the same general area, some walking will be required unless you have bicycle or other alternative transportation. Maybe rent a bike?

Add: North Vancouver - Grouse Mountain and Capilano Suspension Bridge. Probably each site is a day trip.
- Stanley Park - walk or bike the seawall
- take the aquabus from Sunset Beach to Granville
Island. Walk or bike the seawall over to Science World.

RE: Vanier Park attractions - there use to be a pass you could purchase for all three attractions at a single discounted price but this was pre-pandemic. Enquire if this is still available.

If you pre purchase tickets to Capilano Suspension Bridge you get a free bus ride from out front of Pan Pacific Hotel.

Karen if I were to book this could I then take a bus to grouse mountain and then somehow be returned to pan pacific? I’m not staying there but fairly close.
I’d like to take the day trip tour to capilano and grouse but the only one I can find leaves at 8:30am and we just arrive the night before I’d rather leave just a little later but we only have one full day in Vancouver.

Christin That's what we did. We didn't stay there either. Make sure you pre purchase your tickets online though.

Blue Bus from downtown to Horseshoe Bay.

Janet and then hop on the 20 minute ferry ride to Bowen Rent electric bikes and explore !

Lighthouse Park. Blue bus from downtown.
White Rock. Steveston. Deep Cove. Belcarra Park. Westminster Quay & take the paddlewheeler riverboat tour to Fort Langley.
Harbour Air to Saltspring Island especially on market day.
Zodiac/whale watching tour from Granville Island.

SkyTrain to Lafarge Lake. Last stop. Lafarge-Douglas. Get off, and walk around Lake.

Whale watching from Steveston

Steveston or Lynn Valley.

UBC most buses go to the university. There are museums Anthropology and there are the Japanese gardens

Take a bus at Bay Department store on West Georgia down town to Horseshoe Bay ferry. Take the ferry to Bowen Island. You can walk around the island and enjoy a nice lunch at the restaurant.

Transit bus to horseshoe bay then walk on to Bowen Island ferry. Explore snug cove and walk around Killarney lake

Take a bus to horseshow bay and by ferry travel to sunshine coast. Then take a bus and go to down town in Gibsons. Have fun in the beach and enjoy good restaurants with fresh see foods. And get back home same day. Remember you should leave home very early

Whistler by Snow Bus, Fort Langley (I’m sure they have transit)

Bowen Island, walk on town is right off the ferry and beautiful walks too!

The transit system is very good there, there's so many things to see and do there

Bowen Island. I took the skytrain to Vancouver, the bus to Granville island, the water taxi to Bowen, and they have small transit buses that take you around on the island. Did it with my girlfriends and we have cars.

Liz last I heard the water taxi to Bowen doesn’t go from
Granville island anymore. Could be wrong though (and hope I am!)

Diana oh, good question. I have not done it since Covid, etc. There used to be a bus from waterfront skytrain station to the horseshoe bay ferry terminal.

Diana you would need to bus to horseshoe bay and take the ferry from there as a walk on passenger

Liz - better route is to get the west van (aka the blue bus) from Vancouver to Horseshoe Bay and then the ferry to Bowen. The ferry fee paid at Horseshoe Bay is for the round trip.

Take a bus to Deep cove and enjoy hiking, kayaking

Capilano suspension bridge, free bus from downtown

Assuming you are staying in downtown. Morning you go down to Gastown hit up Milano for coffee and Pure Bread for breakfast. Walk Gastown, steam clock, head towards coal harbor, Canada Place and convention center. Up Burrard, down Robson, right on Denman, rent a bike here or along the way. Bike north around Stanley Park to English bay. Head to Granville island by bike or bus after returning bike. Try some Granville Island beer, sake, Liberty Gin, coffee in the market. Eat at Bridges or Popina for dinner. Head back out to Olympic village, Nook if you haven’t had dinner, Ernest ice cream, Science world at night, Keefer Bar for night cap, then back to hotel. Take uber back to hotel instead of wandering downtown east side at night

Eddie take a local taxi. It’s safer. ubers have no internal cameras, no local office, you also are not insured as a passenger in an uber unless the driver has commercial use insurance and drivers make less with no job protection or benefits. It’s supporting modern day slavery.

Free grouse mountain bus from waterfront! Hike to the top of grouse or take the gondola up

The free bus isn’t running this year

We just did the bus to/from Whistler this weekend and it worked out great. About $20 per person per way, and the one we went with was pet friendly too. Easy pick up by Burrard Station and saved us having to rent a car and pay for parking!

Seabus over to Lonsdale Quay to the farmers market and lunch

Oh float plane one way to Nanaimo, foot ferry over to Newcastle Island, short walk back on BC ferries. Fun!

Rent a bike and do the Central Valley Greenway

If you are too tired to ride back if you can take the bike on the skytrain
