Top of the world highway is cool 2!

Have done this a couple of times (lived in Inuvik) and love it! Enjoy all of the wildlife - have your camera ready! Dawson is a must and if you are headed up the Dempster Highway (good dirt road) to Tombstone, then you have one of the best picture taking opportunities there is!

Top of the world highway was pretty cool! I'd recommend carrying extra gas (gas stations can be few and far between!) and we had 2 spare tires with us just in case.

In general, one of the most beautiful places we've ever been...the scenery, wildlife, hours of no civilization. Would go back in a heartbeat!

Everything after Fort Nelson is amazing! Stop anywhere that looks interesting- the north is super

Buy Milepost 2017. It describes what to see and do along each kilometre of the way. Without it you might not know to stop at some cool spot along the way.

Where would one buy this Milepost 2017?

Liard Hotsprings

Backpacked for 6 days into Tombstone in fall 2015. Lovely, rugged and tough hiking. Then drove the Dempster to Inuvik. Then back to Dawson City (must pan for gold and see the sternwheeler graveyard). Then drove into Alaska on the Top of the World highway, spent time there before coming back to the Yukon through Kluane. Beautiful, wild and scenic on every side. Enjoy; you'll have a great time!
Mavis
Thanks all; one question specific about Dempster Hwy, is very hard on your vehicle?
Deb
Yes. Potholes, washboard and mud in certain sections. It's not an easy gravel road by any stretch, except for at the beginning. Past Tombstone, the highway changes and its tougher. There is a highway update showing the km's and the conditions throughout.

Driving from Edmonton to Yukon: Tips and Must-See Destinations
If you're planning a road trip from Edmonton to Yukon, you're in for an adventure! The journey is long but incredibly scenic, taking you through some of the most beautiful landscapes in Canada. In this blog post, we'll share some tips and must-see destinations for your upcoming trip in early August.
Driving Tips
- Plan your route: The distance from Edmonton to Whitehorse, the capital of Yukon, is approximately 1,900 kilometers. Plan your stops accordingly and consider taking the Alaska Highway, which offers stunning scenery and plenty of opportunities for wildlife viewing.
- Pack essentials: Ensure you have a well-stocked emergency kit, including a first-aid kit, jumper cables, extra water, snacks, and warm clothing. Cell service can be spotty in remote areas, so it's essential to be prepared.
- Check road conditions: Before embarking on your journey, check the road conditions and weather forecasts. The Yukon can experience unpredictable weather, and some roads may be under construction or closed due to inclement conditions.
- Fill up on gas: Fuel stations can be few and far between along the way, so ensure you have a full tank of gas and consider carrying extra fuel cans just in case.
Must-See Destinations
Tombstone Territorial Park
