Cinque Terre is a must. Hike it if you can and be prepared with lots of water as it's hot! Ditto above, Positano is a must. Ferry ride alone is gorgeous. We did Italy for 3 weeks in July and it was perfect but warm. Have comfortable shoes as that's the best way to see it!

Does anyone have ideas of how many days/hours to stay in certain cities?

Raelene I spent 3 in Positano and wish I had more. Be prepared to walk up hills etc. I stayed at the Brikette Hostel (if you’re looking for something cheaper) and it had amazing views. I think 375ish stairs to get there though. I did one night in Amalfi, if you go there (on the ferry) take a lemon tour! Very limited accommodations because it’s so small. Wish I stayed longer. It so was beautiful.
Spent 5 in Florence and that was probably enough. Book in advance to climb the stairs to the duomo. Check out the sunset at Piazzale Michaelangelo (small “hike”) with a Bottle of wine.
They have a really cool outdoor flea market by the train station that’s worth checking out.
Venice is pretty small, you could prob do in 2-3 days max. There’s an amazing view of the city from the top of a mall that you should google. Get to St.Marks square early and you’ll get some beautiful pics when it’s empty. Doge’s palace is a must and it’s easier to go in the morning. You can get a great view of the Bridge of Sighs from inside the prison.
If you’re doing Pompeii, book a tour. They’ll brief you there and back, and explain what you’re looking it.
Can you tell I love Italy? Just spent a month there. Would go back in a heartbeat.

Kate:
Florence for sure, skip Venice. Fly right on to Santorini. We stayed at Antonia in Fira and it was awesome. Mykonos and Naxos were ok, Santorini was the best though, we rented a car and explored, so worth it. Ferries are a nightmare, avoid them if you can

Cinque Terre was nice too. Worth staying in Manarola, its best at night when the crowds leave. Nice blues bar in the square

Cinque terre and Florence in Italy. Santorini for sure-so picturesque but really expensive. We also spent time on Crete-big island and lots to see!!

Megan Bennett:
I LOVED Sicily
Most people skip it, but it’s filled with history, fabulous Michelin starred restaurants (at a reasonable price) and the beaches are fabulous. The epitome of Italian culture. Could do Palermo and/or Taormina in 2-3 days.

Megan Bennett My daughter and I are heading there this July. Can you give me any helpful tips. We need safe but affordable accommodations. We also plan to take the ferry to Malta for a day or so visit.
