Question:
Humans say...
Paul
vrbo
Jeannett
They are one and the same. Show in usd. I prefer Airbb as the .CA site is CND $
Paula
Apparently HomeAway.ca is in Canadian..
Paul
Wishful thinking. We are in Canada, enter our prices in CDN. but initial presentation by vrbo is in USD. Only when the guest requests an acurate quote does the Cdn. amount appear. Very frustrating at times.
Paula
Paul same property on all 3 sites, different prices lol
Paula
When will your website be ready to rock?
Paul
Website up and running and having lots of fun with it. It will probably be deleted if I post it here but it is bestsunpeaks.com
BESTSUNPEAKS.COM

Paula - it’s rockin! Time for a Sun Peaks vacation!!

Have used vrbo and airbnb many times...I personally prefer airbnb because all fees are included in cdn $ and there is more accountability by both the host and the guest as you each review each other so the overall culture of the users seems more respectful in my experiences.

Awesome!!! This trip we are looking for something a little closer to Vancouver
Pamela
I like airbnb - you can negotiate a little. You can find some really good deals on vrbo and Homeaway for longer stays. I always contact airbnb hosts directly, if they are quiet (check their calendar), you can ask for a cheaper rate (which they send to you as an offer). Doesn't always work, but I've had a few discounted nights that way.

Homestay and vrbo are the same company. I list my property in Whistler with them and have had no problems.
Linda
I had a terrrible experience with vrbo. They give contradictory information. It’s really hard to figure out how to contact them and then they take days or weeks to get back to you. Their system is full of glitches. I think it’s because they and Homeaway were bought by expedia who didn’t really bother to sync them because they’d rather you booked a hotel. air bnb has been great. We’ve used it a lot. The guy (at vrbo) we considered booking with didn’t want payment through them because he said they take forever to pay.

My question....I used airbnb several times last year and tried again recently. They wanted me to supply a personal document, like a passport. I do not feel this is appropriate and do not want those documents in the hands of others. Has anyone else had this happen? I did send airbnb an email and never received a respouse from them. At this point HomeAway does not require.
Pamela
You don't have to give your passport, but a valid piece of ID (drivers license, ID card, PR card...any of these would work). Remember that you need to provide "something" to people who are opening up their homes to you. Yes, you pay for it, but what if you burn the place down, or wreck the place...they need something to track you down
Nic
I feel you. The first time this happened it felt a little weird, but as Pamela says above, you are a total stranger being trusted with someone's space, often times worth a looooooooot of money.
I understand why ID is a requirement and am surprised that it doesn't get requested more often.
Jeannett
You must have some sort of government issues id to verify your identity as a renter or rentee. That’s a good thing
Jacqueli
I don't think they see it. airbnb sees it. I don't remember seeing anyone's when I was hosting an airbnb. By the way, horrible experience...
Jeannett
Jacqueline Young yes that’s right. It’s for airbnb to make sure they know who they are dealing with
Jeannett
Jacqueline Young too bad. We have rented multiples times in many countries and our hosts live us
Jacqueli
Jeannett yea, I made the mistake of not living a the property that I rented out. So much damage!
Linda
It is mandated by government in many European countries.
Linda
Jacqueline Young I don’t understand the meaning of “not living a the property”. You rented it for someone else? Then there was damage?
Linda
Jeannett “live us”?
Jacqueli
Linda at the property, sorry. I owned a condo in Langley and rented it out via airbnb whenever I went away.

Booking Sites for Cabins/Cottages in BC: VRBO vs HomeAway vs Airbnb
When it comes to booking a cabin or cottage in British Columbia, there are three main booking sites that you're likely to come across: VRBO, HomeAway, and Airbnb.
All three of these sites offer a wide range of cabin and cottage rentals, from cozy and rustic to luxurious and modern. However, there are some key differences between the sites that you should be aware of before you book.
VRBO
VRBO (Vacation Rentals by Owner) is a website that specializes in vacation rentals. It has a wide selection of cabins and cottages in BC, ranging from budget-friendly to high-end.
One of the main advantages of VRBO is that it allows you to book directly with the property owner. This can save you money on booking fees, and it also gives you the opportunity to get to know the owner and ask them any questions you may have about the property.
However, it's important to note that VRBO does not screen its listings, so it's important to do your research before you book. You should also read the reviews for any property you're considering, and make sure that it's a good fit for your needs.
HomeAway
HomeAway is another website that specializes in vacation rentals. It has a similar selection of cabins and cottages in BC as VRBO, and it also offers a wide range of other vacation rentals, such as houses, apartments, and condos.
One of the main advantages of HomeAway is that it offers a "Book with Confidence" guarantee. This guarantee protects you if the property you book is not as advertised, or if you have any problems with the property during your stay.
However, HomeAway also charges booking fees, which can add up if you're booking a long-term stay. Additionally, HomeAway does not screen its listings, so it's important to do your research before you book.
Airbnb
Airbnb is a website that allows people to rent out their homes or apartments for short-term stays. It has a wide selection of cabins and cottages in BC, and it also offers a variety of other accommodations, such as rooms in shared houses, private rooms, and entire apartments.
One of the main advantages of Airbnb is that it allows you to book unique and affordable accommodations. You can also often find last-minute deals on Airbnb.
However, it's important to note that Airbnb does not screen its listings, so it's important to do your research before you book. You should also read the reviews for any property you're considering, and make sure that it's a good fit for your needs.
Which booking site is right for you?
The best booking site for you will depend on your individual needs and preferences. If you're looking for a wide selection of cabins and cottages in BC, and you want to be able to book directly with the property owner, then VRBO is a good option.
If you're looking for a booking site that offers a "Book with Confidence" guarantee, then HomeAway is a good option. And if you're looking for a unique and affordable accommodation, then Airbnb is a good option.
No matter which booking site you choose, make sure to do your research before you book. Read the reviews for any property you're considering, and make sure that it's a good fit for your needs.
