Portimão, Portugal was amazing!
Nancy
Croatia is terrific
Kirsten
Loved Italy

Portugal is amazing, inexpensive and there are less tourists. Lagos, Faro, around Lisbon (day trips or stay in Belem, Cascais, Sintra), Porto.
Linda
In Spain we loved Seville, Alhambra near Grenada, Valencia, and every other place we were able to visit. Barcelona is great but avoid tourist times.

Spain is the best value for money.
Linda
Best food too.

Lisbon & Porto.....both are awesome and great weather. Morocco is close if you go to Spain or Portugal!

Since you mentioned that you are new to travelling. For travelling to middle east, I would recommend Dubai as it is more tourist friendly, lots to do, go there for warm weather and modern architecture

Spain’s Architecture and value is unbeatable in Europe. The Alhambra is mind blowing, but requires reservations 4 months in advance. Seville is amazing too! From the south of Spain it’s very easy to get to Morocco by ferry or flight.
For an “intro” to the Middle East, and for stunning Architecture, I can’t recommend Turkey enough. It’s very westernized but with lots of middle eastern touches. Istanbul and Cappadocia were my highlights (I’m a huge architecture buff). Cappadocia has an underground city dating back hundreds of years, many early Christian fresco’s and tunnels mixed with Islamic architecture.

We got reservations for Alhambra 1 month in advance but it was for late May. We met people who couldn’t get in and not taking it well (Americans). I’d recommend booking every sight in advance because tons of stuff sells out (especially towers).
Linda
It’s also almost always cheaper to book in advance and you get better exchange on credit cards as long as they don’t ding you.
Megan
Apparently it depends on what parts of the Alhambra you want to see - but you got lucky Linda! I booked two months out and didn’t get the “full” experience
Linda
Megan we did, sorry you didn’t and thanks for bringing back wonderful memories!
Shelley
Portugal! The walled cities are awesome! Obidos, Sinatra, Evora, Cascais, Sabres. I haven’t been up north, but the southern section is incredible!
