The Barcelo hotels on the Riviera Maya south of Cancún are great! Close to the Mayan ruins at Tulum and Playa del Carmen for shopping.

I’m actually at the Grand Sunset Princess right now. It’s pretty great! The Barcelo in Riviera Maya is really nice too.
FYI you probably won’t find a white sand beach free from seaweed in Mexico. If you want really nice beaches (but lesser food quality), Cuba is a great option!

I was there earlier this month.
Beautiful resort. Meh food.
Platinum upgrade is a must.
Beach was so so.

Puerto Vallarta has some great hotels and no seaweed. Hyatt Ziva we just came back from the ocean water was a little cold - but give it a few weeks would probably be warmer
. The restaurants were great and its a 10 minute taxi or Uber ride to P.V. Romance district which is filled with music and restaurants and all sorts of activities. The hotels offer 5 different restaurants as well activities through out the day and evening

Profile picture of Andrea

Andrea

Geri but the waters not blue- you need to go to the Mayan side for blue water- white beaches but you might get the algae bloom

Profile picture of Geri

Geri

Andrea that is true but it is lots of fun to play in
. And actually when we were at the Iberostar Nuevo Vallarta it was a lovely beach to play in as well

And we love the Riu Vallarta in Riviera Nayarit- have been there twice for girls weeks!

Yeah make sure you check the seaweed issue out in Mayan Riviera. The week we got there our resort got hit and NO blue water
it looked like the pacific. First time this has happened. Not all beaches are affected

I just returned from Manzanillo. Pacific side, so not exactly blue water/white beaches. You’ll need to go to the Carib side. We stayed at Las Hadas by Brisas. LOVED the resort and the staff. It’s older, but still has a grand/luxurious feel. Some scenes from the movie ‘10’ with Bo Derek were filmed here. I’m not one to stay put at a resort, preferring instead to travel into town. But I loved the resort so much, that I didn’t feel I had the need. I don’t think there’s much in Manz anyways. The staff were amazing and very service-oriented, and the food delicious. Their Lagazpi restaurant is rated 4-diamond by AAA. Water was a bit cooler, and beach is smaller & black volcanic sand.

Also, our little Bay was okay. But there was MAJOR red tide on the other side of the peninsula, in front of Tesoro.

Rui Mayan Mexico in Playacar was great- but there was some seaweed, Barcelo Maya Tropical is our favourite- but there’s been a lot of concerts there lately and that brings in a whole different element of drugs and safety.

Pretty much every right in maya riviera right now has a seaweed buildup. Pacific side is better for that , but the water isn’t as nice

Barcelo is our favourite in the Mayan Rivieria. We’ve been twice. Beautiful water and definitely the beach is free of seaweed. Have been with two kids and they loved it.

We just spent ten days in SAN José del Cabo. Not great for swimming but the most amazing beaches for walking. There are swimmable beaches you can go to. We felt safer than we have on either side of the mainland and the artisans in San José are amazing.

I agree with one thing. Pacific side is seaweed free, plus, weather is much more reliable. Downside is the sand is a bit more coarse and the water is a darker blue, not that nice turquoise blue.
PV and and Mazatlan are swimmable beaches, Cabo not so much. All 3 have great nightlife. All beaches in Cancun and Mayan are swimmable. Nightlife good in Cancun and Playa, but many resorts in Playa are far away from city centers. It's really a matter of what's more important to you.

I’m current at the Tucan Iberostar in playacar. You are definitely not going to find a seaweed free beach anywhere in the riviera maya . Some are just better than others at cleaning it. The beach at the Tucan is huge and they do a great job. I would totally recommend it. Anywhere in playacar is nice actually - the beach here is very deep from hotel to water edge. Some places here you don’t have much at all due to beach erosion.

Karen not seaweed free. As well the last two times we have gone there , the WestJet flight and hotel was $1,000 a COUPLE cheaper to book through Expedia . Same flights , rooms

Prices fluctuate, so find your best price! We didn't come across any seaweed when we were there, but I know the East Coast has a constant battle to clear it.

If i could recommend one place in particular, it would be the Hyatt Ziva Cabo. 5+ resort at a really reasonable price. Lower than some 4 stars. Reviews are very good.

Dante except you really don't want to venture into that ocean, there.

Profile picture of Dante

Jason i know and i agree. Ive been to pretty much every resort area in Mexico, and although swimming in the ocean is nice, i didn't do it often and its not my #1 deciding factor in where i go. Like i said, depends on what's important to you.

Dante Wife and I stayed here a few years ago. Loved the property. Enjoyed walking into San Jose del Cabo. Enjoyed the food. We knew in advance that the ocean wasn't swimmable, too.
