Looking for a change from Hyde Park? Where to stay in London this summer?

Question:

Heading to the UK this summer. Would love ideas on different areas of London to stay (we usually stay near Hyde park or Kensington and would love a change), and also expect to spend time in the Leeds / Sheffield area so would love any advice for that area too!
Things to see, places to stay, eat etc. thanks!

We lived in South London for many years (my husbands family are all from the area). Two very popular places are Brixton and Peckham. Brixton is a little easier as it's on the tube line (Peckham is on the overground, so still accessible via train/bus). They're not touristy places though, so if you want to do more of that stuff I'd suggest Islington - it's very close to central and on the Northern Line.
I don't really know too many places in Leeds/Sheffield, but it made me chuckle, because as a Brit those places aren't really what people consider close...Which is nuts to Canadians
My in-laws own a cottage in a place called Baslow in the Peak District. There's a lovely old manor house which is popular, and nice walks in the area - I'd have a visit just to go get afternoon too and a chippy.

I also lived South of the river the brief time I was living in London and I lived on the Brixton line in Stockwell and it's very handy for the tube and buses including good night bus options. But as mentioned, not too Central. About a 45 minute walk from Victoria rail station for example (my walk home was from there on the days we decided to hoof it. My parents stayed in around Holburn when they came and liked it a lot. Definitely more central, lots of cafes and restaurants and short distances to the sights.

I stayed in Camden for a couple of months and found it so easy to get everywhere from there ( walking, bus or tube). Lots of good shopping (Wholefoods) and restaurants.

I see lots of recommendations on the Northern Line, they’re all really great reco’s! Only thing I would consider is the Tube, half the Northern Line is currently closed and there are tube strikes on the Central and Victoria lines every weekend until June. Perhaps it’ll reopen by the time you visit but something to watch out for!

I’d take mid-May with a grain of salt
