There's a place in chinook mall. Second floor across from children place
Laurie
yup calforex in Chinook. We exchange all our money there better exchange rate than the banks. Wide range of currencies too
Danny
SueCalforex has best exchange rate I have found in Calgary and when my son had a school project were happy to help him get very small bills of subject countries for only the value of the bills. My choice
Tracy
I went to the FX place in Market Mall.
Tracy
I went to the bank in August and they couldn't do it. Said they don't keep pesos so maybe they have to order them?
Cathy
Tracy I guess it depends on the bank. Or maybe timing. I went to TD this month and got all the Mexican pesos I wanted in a variety of notes.
Cindy
TD told me which bank had lots in stock when theirs didn’t.
Robbin
Cindy banks and AMS get their currency from Calforex.
Tracy
Yeah, I went to RBC. Have had the same problem with CIBC too.
Christin
Tracy my bank orders them. Need two weeks notice
Daniele
TD will order any denomination if they don't have at hand.
Kathleen
I went to the calforex in the core downtown last week and spent $500 CAD and got $7000 in pesos.
Jackie
I go to Chinook mall.
Alan
calforex
Banks are good too. I've used both.
Tonia
Are you an engineer? Or know one? If you do then the exchange downtown will give you a better exchange rate and I believe they also wave or reduce the fees
Sonja
Tonia Can u explain what an engineer has to do with money exchange?
Tonia
Sonja as an engineer they would be a part of AGEGA which is their association. Through that association they will get certain deals and discounts.
Sonja
Tonia I had no idea APEGA has discounts for money exchange. Do u know what company it is with?
Tonia
Sonja that i can’t remember. It’s the one downtown in the mall.
Tonia
Sonja yes they have discounts on insurance too
John
Sonja ok, did we figure out this out? Lol.
Sonja
John No I haven't but will lol
Ed
APEGGA also included geologists and geophysicists not engineers only. Better check carefully as to the so-called discount on insurance rather than taking such discount at face value.
Tonia
Ed yes you are correct it does include other disciplines. I just understand the engineer side more as that’s what my husband does. I agree about the other discounts.
Jan
Tonia APEGA has deals on money exchange? Where?
Daniel
Albern currency exchange on 16th/centre st
Christin
We always use a bank machine at our destination. As long as your PIN on your debit card isn’t 5 digits you should have no issues
Millie
Christin It’s always good to get some pesos at home to start you off with money for a taxi, a meal, tips. You can arrive at the airport and discover the ATM is empty or out of order or, even worse, eats your card.
Alan
Christin Also if you can, get a second debit card and store it in a seperate place in case you lose your primary one.
Holly
Most AMA locations have a foreign currency ATM. Not the best exchange but very convenient to use.
Sheila
Ordered mine at CIBC. They arrived at my local branch within 3 days.
Jax
Get a Wise card. Then just use a local ATM to withdraw.
Been using them for years and they're great, lowest fees, market exchange rates (no hidden "spread" of 2%+ like all the big banks), fast and intuitive. Can send and receive, as well as hold money, in multiple currencies.
If you use an invite code, you get first transfer 'free' up to $800, and full disclosure, the referrer gets a kickback after 3 uses of their code. I'd wholeheartedly recommend it with or without discounts or codes though!

Jax just started using this and do far has been the best solution. Not fond of their charges to get cash from their card
though. Trying to figure out a better way. We can also use our phones to pay with Wise if the store has tap.
Paige
In mexico right now. You get 13.5 to 1 can dollar at the exchange here. You only get 13.1 from anywhere in canada
Laurie

Emma

Robbin
calforex
Sorry, I though you were asking for Edmonton.
Linda
Just get enough to get there tips etc. way better rate in Mexico. Here the bank buys it passes cost onto you. In Mexico straight exchange
Cherrie
Linda how much do you typically allot for tips for an all inclusive?
Laurie
Linda do they exchange Canadian or just US?
RizelMay
https://canexforex.com/ at Eau Clair Mall. For any currency exchange. They don't charge service fees.
CANEXFOREX.COM
Canex Forex – Currency exchange with no fee
Jill
Went to calforex today and they only have 100 pesos if anyone is going and looking for smaller bills
Corrine
My brother in law who has a winter place there always suggests withdrawing at airport atm
Emma
Rbc right now
Edith
If we don’t have enough to get us started from our last trip I get a small amount at our bank and the rest at a bank ATM in Mexico. Refuse their conversion rate as you get a better deal when your home bank does it.
Emma
I get a couple hundred pesos wherever here (less than $20 Canadian worth), then just use an ATM in Mexico with my Canadian debit card. That's the best exchange rate.
Suniel
Emma That is what I do all over the world
Suniel
Use ATM's in Mexico. Easiest method.

Laura
USD OK?
Danny
Laura when I am in the states I collect 1$ bills and use them as tips in Mexico.
Laura
Danny thank you!
Greg
Danny 20 pesos is more than 1 dollar US
Danny
Depending on the service I give more than one. But it is tough to get 20 peso bills in Calgary and if you stay at an all inclusive I find I give way more in tips in my travels than I get in change
Robert
Greg 20 pesos is almost exactly $1 USD.
Shelaine
You can pay with Canadian
Rhonda
Your best exchange rate is at a bank machine on premises located in the place you are visiting. You will take a hit at a money exchange company
Carmen
You can also order at canada post and I've heard it's a great deal from people who spend 3
months at a time in Mexico. They do have to order it in-- would be worth a phone call to see what their exchange rate is.
Tracey
I always just go to my local bank - just easier
Scott
I'm surprised so many people are recommending calforex. A few years ago I got USD exchange rates at both calforex and Canex Forex on numerous occasions. Every time I always got a better rate with Canex Forex.
Amanda
AMA has a atm that has money exchange. You don’t need to be a member to use, it’s right at the door. Not sure if it’s cheaper.. but we had a heck of a time finding pesos last minute a few weeks ago, no banks had any on hand. Worked perfectly
Amanda
Also.. our hotel front desk did an exchange at 19 pesos/1 cad
Cong
Market mall is the best

Market mall exchange place is our go to
Nikki
Megan Hi
is this at the ATPS store by People's?
Rachel
We're in mexico now. We just use our debit card at the ATM at the resort to get Pesos as we go. It's just a $5 service charge. You need lots of pesos to tip absolutely everyone.
We also carry American on us which everyone accepts.
Pete
I live in Mexico in the winter, a lot of people bringing the USD dollar that is wrong you end up losing it on exchange twice. Best to get Mexican pesos in Canada or in most tourist areas they will exchange Canadian dollars or use the ATM.
Dwayne
Where?
Robert
I bring 1-2 hundred dollars in small US bills. Then I use the ATM at Costco (Cabo or Puerto Vallarta) and withdraw pesos.
I get the bank exchange rate and my only fee is the use of the ATM (about $3 last time I believe?)
Shirley
Alex Madu do you know about this?
Laurie
Our daughter is living in Mexico and we just got back. Best rate is to use an ATM in Mexico. BBVA or Banamex give the best exchange. No charge just the daily exchange rate. Don’t take US cash. You will get hit hard with a sound exchange.

The Best Places to Exchange Money for Pesos
If you're planning a trip to Mexico, one of the essential tasks is exchanging your currency for Mexican pesos. While most banks offer currency exchange services, they may not always provide the best rates. In this blog post, we'll explore some of the top options for getting a better deal on your peso exchange.
Banks
Although banks are a convenient option for exchanging money, they often charge higher fees and offer less favorable exchange rates. However, if you have an account with a particular bank, you may be able to get a slightly better rate or avoid certain fees.
Currency Exchange Bureaus
Currency exchange bureaus, also known as casa de cambio or casas de bolsa, are dedicated to currency exchange services. They typically offer better rates than banks, but their rates can vary depending on their location and the amount you're exchanging. It's a good idea to shop around and compare rates before settling on a particular bureau.
Airport Currency Exchange
While it's convenient to exchange money at the airport upon arrival, these services often charge higher fees and offer less favorable rates. If possible, it's best to exchange your money before your trip or find a better option once you're in Mexico.
ATMs
Using your debit or credit card at an ATM in Mexico can be a great way to get pesos at a reasonable exchange rate. Just be sure to check with your bank about any foreign transaction fees or ATM withdrawal fees, as these can add up quickly.
Online Currency Exchange Services
There are several online currency exchange services that allow you to order pesos in advance and have them delivered to your home or hotel. While these services charge a fee, they often offer competitive exchange rates and the convenience of having your pesos ready before your trip.
No matter which option you choose, it's always a good idea to shop around and compare rates to ensure you're getting the best deal on your peso exchange. Additionally, be mindful of any fees or commissions that may be added to the exchange rate.

Where do you guys like to exchange your money for pesos? In the past I have always done it at the bank, but wondering if I can get a better deal somewhere else?
