How do people normally plan vacation time from work?

Question:
Humans say...
Brendan
Most of the deals Chris posts are only around for a couple of days, or in many cases, a couple of hours. To take advantage of the best airline seat sales you have to be ready to drop everything and go, or get lucky with the dates.
Parveen
I have booked time off and whatever next mistake fare or rock bottom sale is available at that time I will take it wherever it goes
Heather
My vacation time off is decided in October of the preceding year. I watch for deals that apply to dates that work for me.
Mike
I pretty much take my vacation when I want to so...And if that doesn't work, I work from a laptop so I can really work from anywhere anyways these days.
Donna
Florida cheap flight is back -
Tessa
You've got to be prepared to book it the second you see it. Helps when the deal is for future dates a couple months from now. Remember you can usually cancel your booking within 24 hours IF you book with the airline itself or the travel agent isn't a jerk (I'm looking at you expedia)
Jenny
Always better to book directly than with an online third party. I learnt that valuable lesson a long time ago!
Melissa
Why, Jenny?
Andrew
Your dealing with a third party that will send you back and forth. If there's a complication or need a cancellation. Sometimes a third party has ridiculous charges for cancellation or changing the flights
Andrew
But if your sure you won't do either there's usually great deals from third parties sites
Tessa
True but often these deals are not bookable directly with an airline.
Alyssa
When you see these deals you usually only have a few hours to claim them. If you vacation time at work is flexible, take time off in October/November or April/May and then just go where the deals are.

I make traveling and living my life a priority. If my job is going to make that impossible, I get a new one. On my death bed I'm going to regret the places I didn't go to and the adventures I didn't have. I'm not going to wish I worked more or saved more money
Melissa
.......... I screwed up. holy. crap. LOL. I booked my vacation time. My department is so small, that only 1 person can be on vacation at a time. And there's a deadline for vacation bids. and there're rules for seniority as well. So.......... yeah. I booked time off, Apr 6-14. :< the FL deal I wanted was still there, early this morning (8:30am) I SHOULD HAVE BOOKED THIS MORNING, before I left for work, since it was already my turn to bid. There was no way that I was going to pay for it, on the computer at work. What will I do now??
Cam
I guess all you can do is hope a good rate comes up when you have booked your time off, or find a rich friend to take you.
Kelly
Or go somewhere else

An Important thing to remember is that any time you book a trip WITHIN or ENTERING/LEAVING the USA they are required by law to give you 24 hours to cancel no questions asked. I had similar problem when he posted the $65 all in flight to Los Angelas! Had to cancel because another in my department was always off... But I had booked it right away because the deals don't last!
Jm
I was so close to booking Florida as well... But then I decided I was doing it just because it was a good deal haha
Melissa

How to Plan Vacation Time from Work
Planning vacation time from work can be a challenge, especially if you're trying to find a good deal on travel. Here are a few tips to help you make the most of your vacation time:
- Start planning early. The earlier you start planning, the more likely you'll be able to find a good deal on travel and accommodations. You'll also have more time to research different destinations and activities.
- Be flexible with your travel dates. If you're not able to travel during peak season, you're likely to find better deals on flights and hotels. You may also want to consider traveling to a less popular destination.
- Consider taking a vacation during the off-season. The off-season is typically from November to March. During this time, you'll find lower prices on flights and hotels, and you'll also avoid the crowds.
- Use a travel agent. A travel agent can help you find the best deals on travel and accommodations. They can also help you plan your itinerary and make sure that everything goes smoothly.
- Be prepared to compromise. Sometimes, you won't be able to get everything you want out of your vacation. Be prepared to compromise on your travel dates, destination, or activities.
Planning vacation time from work can be a challenge, but it's definitely worth it. By following these tips, you can make the most of your vacation time and create memories that will last a lifetime.

How do people normally plan vacation time from work???? seems awfully hard to find a matchup, between seeing these deals & the time when I can actually select my time off from work!
I've been wanting to see a friend out in Florida- seems like the deal from a few wks ago is gone.
