Went to the Galapagos with G Adventures. Was a smaller boat with informed and wonderful local guides. Every time I saw the other large groups trouping through getting half-hearted info from their guides, I felt lucky. Highly recommended. (PS We were on a Make-a-Wish trip that G Adventures helped donate to my critically ill child, so they also get points for philanthropy/kindness).

Agree with Tasha....get stateroom on upper deck if you can...those on lower complained of fumes...

Consider risking it and book last minute in Guayaquil. It’s only two of you you’ll likely get spots on a small catamaran. Cats can go under sail and are more stable to manage sea sickness, fewer guests. We were on the Nemo 2 and paid full price but it was fantastic, a ship mate paid a fraction because it was last minute. Take seasickness stuff if that’s a concern for you.

I booked my own cruise with a travel agency in Cuenca, after checking prices while we travelled from Quito. Wait as long as you can, as prices drop while they try to fill the ship. We were on a small yacht with 36 guests on the Yolitta II, which I believe is now in the GAdventures tours. We did a four night cruise, which was perfect. And stayed on our own for another six days in the Galápagos, spending time on Santa Cruz and Isabella Islands. Loved the Lava Tunnels boat tour on Isabella. It’s easy to book your own hotels and tours, rent bikes, book ferries and go to the Charles Darwin Center on your own.

PS don’t spend any time in Guayaquil, if you are flying to the Islands from there. Small dirty town with nothing to do!
