Hi Jenna,
The flights that have resumed from Canada, flying non-stop to Costa Rica are...
San Jose (SJO) : air canada has resumed flights from Toronto.
Liberia (LIR) : air canada has resumed flights from Toronto. sunwing is scheduled to resume flights from Toronto on Nov 30th.
The other ways to fly from Canada to Costa Rica without stopping in the U.S. would be...
aeromexico: Calgary -> Vancouver -> Mexico City -> San Jose (SJO)
copa: Calgary -> Toronto -> Panama City -> San Jose (SJO)

Lmer Carrascal: The lockdowns in Ontario do not affect Toronto's YYZ airport. Just local businesses. Here's an article explaining what is affected: https://www.toronto.ca/.../city-of-toronto-supports.../

Folks, I’ve said it several times, and I will say it again; there is NOTHING in the aviation industry today that is in any way Firm beyond perhaps 24 hours. flights are being activated and cancelled the next day...dozens and dozens of them. everything is in flux right now. Countries are changing regulations at the drop of a hat, going into lockdown...one day they may have no quarantine, the next they have a 2 or 3 week mandatory. If any of you currently or have in past flown as “Cons” (contingent passengers,..airline employees, family members) you’ll be VERY familiar with the current state of things; it may operate...or not. it may look good for December...or not. you could get on the next flight, or you could be stuck somewhere for two weeks or longer. There are thousands of people who roam the world by boat; sailboats, catamarans, power cruisers...every country with a coastline has hundred of them anchored offshore. There are many, many places that will not allow them onto a dock; they’re anchored offshore and prohibited from coming ashore. there are reports of people being escorted back to their boats at gunpoint but they aren’t allowed to leave; there is no place that will admit them. the same situations are starting to be seen in aviation, and will likely continue. Be smart and be VERY careful going somewhere; you could well spend a LOT more time there than you intended

If you are going to Puerto Viejo I recommend La Tica y La Gata. Quepos I recommend Las Cascadas.

Hi Georges St-Amour - westjet's non-stop flights from YYC to LIR have yet to resume. They keep getting pushed back by a month. They've been attempting to restart them for a few months. They're now scheduled for January.
Diego
If there are any direct flights to San Jose from Canada...highly doubt it, but normally I think there may be a direct flight from Toronto (air canada).
Jenna
Diego there is. I booked it.
Chris
See first post.

Flying to Costa Rica from Canada: Direct Routes and Other Considerations
If you're planning a trip to Costa Rica from Canada in the next couple of weeks, you might be wondering about the flight options available. Here's what you need to know:
Direct Flights from Canada to Costa Rica
Unfortunately, there are no direct flights from Canada to Costa Rica. All flights from Canadian cities will have at least one stopover or connection. However, there are a few routes that don't go through the United States, which can be advantageous if you prefer to avoid transiting through American airports.
Routes without Stopping in the USA
- Air Canada: Offers flights from Toronto (YYZ) to San José, Costa Rica (SJO) with a connection in Mexico City (MEX).
- WestJet: Operates flights from Calgary (YYC) and Toronto (YYZ) to Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR) with a stop in Panama City (PTY).
- Aeromexico: Provides service from Vancouver (YVR) to San José, Costa Rica (SJO) with a layover in Mexico City (MEX).
Other Considerations
Flight Duration and Layover Times
Flights from Canada to Costa Rica with a connection can take anywhere from 8 to 14 hours, depending on the route and layover duration. It's advisable to book flights with reasonable layover times to avoid long waits at the connecting airports.
Travel Documents and Entry Requirements
Make sure you have a valid passport with at least six months of remaining validity from your planned date of return. Canadian citizens do not need a visa to visit Costa Rica for stays up to 90 days. However, you may need to provide proof of onward or return travel, as well as sufficient funds for your stay.
COVID-19 Restrictions and Testing Requirements
While Costa Rica has lifted most COVID-19 entry requirements, it's essential to check the latest travel advisories and guidelines from the Costa Rican government and airline you're flying with. Some airlines or countries may still require negative COVID-19 tests or other health documentation.
Travel Insurance
It's highly recommended to purchase comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical emergencies, trip cancellations, and other unforeseen circumstances. This is especially important when traveling during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
By considering these factors and planning ahead, you can ensure a smooth and enjoyable trip to the beautiful country of Costa Rica.

Planning to fly to Costa Rica in the next 2 weeks. Are there any direct flights from Canada or ones that don't go through the USA? Any other considerations?
