Pay the extra fee for sending the oversized baggage with the airline. Then when you arrive in Japan send it by courier from the airport you arrive at. It is the safest way to get the snowboard in one piece to it's final destination and probably the cheapest. I been to Japan more than 40 times and I always courier my luggage to my final destination from the airport. I take a carry on with the things I need to last a few days before I arrive a my final destination. Courier fees are very reasonable in Japan!

Darin Thank you. I appreciate your advice. I know about the excellent courier fees in Jaoan as U have used them before. I was just worried that this time with having to go through the Covid protocols at Narita and only having 3 hours to catch my connecting flight in terminal 3 that I would not have enough time to get it couriered. Have you been there during Covid?
Darin
No I haven^t gone during so I can't provide any info on that. You know Japan is only accepting foreigners when they are in a tour our with a tour guide during your stay.
Courier we usually use is Black Cat but all of them are good.
Hope this helps.

If you are going to travel using the bullet train or any other train make sur you buy the JR train pass, it will save you alot of money because traveling in Japan can be very expensive

Flying over to Hokkaido for 5 weeks.

Shipping Luggage and Sports Equipment with ShipGo.com
As someone who loves to travel and enjoy outdoor adventures, I've often faced the challenge of transporting bulky sporting equipment like snowboards or skis. Recently, I had to plan a trip from YEG (Edmonton International Airport) to Japan in August, and I needed to take my son's snowboard with me. Instead of lugging it through the airport and risking potential damage or additional fees, I decided to explore shipping options.
Discovering ShipGo.com
After some research, I came across ShipGo.com, a luggage shipping service that promises affordable, on-time, door-to-door delivery. I was intrigued by their convenience and the prospect of avoiding the hassle of carrying extra luggage through airports and trains.
The Shipping Process
Getting started with ShipGo.com was a breeze. I simply visited their website, entered my pickup and delivery addresses, and provided details about the item I wanted to ship (in this case, my son's snowboard). The website provided an instant quote, which I found reasonably priced. After confirming the details, I scheduled a pickup date and time that worked best for me.
On the scheduled day, a ShipGo representative arrived at my doorstep to collect the snowboard. They provided all the necessary packaging materials and ensured the item was properly secured for safe transportation. The entire process was efficient and hassle-free.
Delivery and Experience
ShipGo.com kept me informed throughout the shipping process, providing regular updates on the package's whereabouts. To my delight, the snowboard arrived at my destination in Japan well before my scheduled arrival, ensuring I had it ready for any potential adventures.
The condition of the snowboard was excellent, with no signs of damage or mishandling. The packaging materials provided by ShipGo.com did an outstanding job of protecting the equipment during transit.
Recommendation and Final Thoughts
Based on my positive experience, I highly recommend ShipGo.com to anyone looking to ship luggage or sporting equipment ahead of their travels. Their service is convenient, affordable, and reliable. The peace of mind knowing that my son's snowboard would arrive safely at our destination made the entire trip more enjoyable.
If you're planning a trip and need to transport bulky or fragile items, consider using ShipGo.com. Their door-to-door service takes the stress out of luggage handling, allowing you to focus on enjoying your journey.
