Far as I know they’re supposed to deliver it to you and you get something like $50/day for each day it’s away from you
Lucia
Jonathan you can also submit your expense for the items you bought to survive without it and it's much more than that. especially for 9 days
Deb
Jonathan really? I’ve not seen that anywhere on line . That would be great!!
Niina
Jonathan I think reimbursement is dependent on the airline you travelled with. I was given about $300.
Lynda
Jonathan it is dependant on airline and also if you are home or visiting. Our luggage was misdirected when we came home from Christchurch, NZ to YVR via SYD and Japan (it went to Dubai) during at the start of COVID and AC the airline responsible (the longest flight although it was an Emirites flight that mishandled it) there was NO compensation and we had to wait 5 months to be reunited with it AND pick it up at YVR. As we were on a trip home the airlines do not pay for delayed luggage.
Siobhan
We used our credit card coverage once for lost luggage coming home in winter - we needed winter things that were all in the delayed bag.
Win
Siobhan and did your CC company honour the expenses for your winter gear?
Siobhan
Winifred Angus Prendergast yes.
Liana
I would go to YVR and get it myself. A friend did this after no contact from the airline, however, a good samaritan texted them with a photo of their luggage sitting at airport. There was TONS of unattended luggage, and they searched through, found it and left!
Jen
I did this as well and found my luggage pretty easily. Don’t forget to submit your interim expenses to the airline.

I would agree with going to YVR to sort it out in person. Tons of luggage left behind / sitting around when I landed on Sunday and at least you’ll be there in person to get an answer instead of hitting dead ends on a phone line.
Not ideal to take the time to do this but it depends on how badly you need / want the contents right away

YVR customer service number is 604.207.7077
Deb
I tried that one, thanks
Ade
Depending on the arrival terminal. If domestic it's easy to go and get it yourself but if international they won't let you in! Mine has been missing for over a month now, went to airport and they don't even want to bother to look!
But given you had a tracker you might be able to push them more!
I unfortunately did not have one
Lucie
YVR is not responsible for luggage. Your airline is responsible from the time you check it in until you collect it at your final destination or until it is delivered to you. You'll have to deal with your airline directly.
Deb
Lucie hi. Yes, I know but was looking for a phone number to talk to a person. I have filled out so many forms on line and listened to so many recordings and just can't seem to get answers haha.
Lucie
Deb unfortunately the airlines don't take calls from the public at YVR. All baggage and airline related issues must go through their call centre or website. Best bet, as others mentioned, see if you can speak to an agent in person.
Anne
Deb what airline did you fly with?
Pat
The only advice I can give you is go to yvr and go to your airline and ask them where you can find your lost luggage . There are hundreds of lost luggage just sitting there waiting for you to claim I wish you good luck
Niina
My pack was lost ... twice. I finally went to YVR and talked my way into where luggage is sorted for delivery, where it had sat, with all tags still attached and a red rush tag. That was 20 days after landing.
Deb
Niina oh my word!
Jaye
Geez there is nothing that would stop me from going to get it if I’d been through that… just go get it!

Retrieving Lost Luggage at YVR: A Comprehensive Guide
Losing your luggage during a flight can be a frustrating and stressful experience. When your belongings fail to arrive at your destination, it can disrupt your travel plans and cause significant inconvenience. In this blog post, we'll guide you through the process of retrieving your lost luggage at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and provide helpful tips to increase your chances of success.
Step 1: Contact the Airline
The first step in retrieving your lost luggage is to contact the airline you traveled with. Most airlines have dedicated baggage services departments that handle lost luggage claims. You can typically find their contact information on the airline's website or by asking at the airport's information desk.
When you contact the airline, provide them with your flight details, including the flight number, date, and destination. Additionally, provide a detailed description of your luggage, including the color, size, brand, and any distinctive markings or tags. This information will help the airline identify your luggage if it's located.
Step 2: File a Lost Luggage Report
If the airline cannot locate your luggage immediately, you'll need to file a lost luggage report. This report serves as an official record of your lost luggage and initiates the search process. The airline will provide you with a file reference number, which you should keep handy for future communication.
Step 3: Follow Up Regularly
After filing the lost luggage report, it's essential to follow up with the airline regularly. The airline may contact you if your luggage is located, but it's also a good idea to check in with them periodically. Provide them with your file reference number and inquire about the status of your luggage search.
Step 4: Request Delivery or Pick-Up
Once your luggage is located at YVR, you have the option to request delivery or pick it up yourself. If you choose to have it delivered, the airline will typically arrange for a courier service to bring your luggage to your desired location, often at an additional cost.
Alternatively, you can pick up your luggage directly from the airport. The airline will provide you with instructions on where to retrieve your luggage, which is typically at the baggage claim area or a designated lost luggage office.
Tips for a Successful Luggage Retrieval
- Be persistent and follow up regularly with the airline until your luggage is located.
- Keep all documentation, such as your baggage claim tags and flight itinerary, as proof of your luggage's ownership.
- If your luggage contains valuable items, inform the airline and consider filing a claim for compensation if it's lost or damaged.
- Be patient and courteous when dealing with airline staff, as lost luggage can be a common occurrence during peak travel seasons.
By following these steps and tips, you'll increase your chances of successfully retrieving your lost luggage at YVR and minimizing the inconvenience caused by this situation.

Looking for advice. My luggage has made it to YVR, 9 days after I landed (YVR still hasn't contacted me but my tracker shows me where it is). I gave the airport a few days (4) but I would really like my luggage back. My question is who do I call to get it delivered? Has anyone had success with this? Thanks
