Is Air Transat a Good Option for Direct Flights to Europe from Calgary?

Traveled to Paris twice with air transat. Really good. Does include food but not wine unless you have upgraded seat. Also watch out, if you prebook seat, they often switch planes so you may not get the seat you actually paid for.
Liisa
ok grt thx good to know
Colleen
Flew with them to London! Enjoyable flight, and yes the food includes wine. I flew economy. It specifies so just before you book. They must also carry so much extra food because my departure and return flight both had offers of seconds...
Liisa
grt thx
Liisa
The flights are only on mondays but $791 return i thought was pretty good direct both ways
Kathrina
We flew to London with airtransat and had a good experience also.
Clare
We have many times food and wine included to London. Always our go to airline.
Gemma
Flew to London with them! They provide a mean and a snack, and wine with your food! I've just flown to London with westjet and would highly recommend picking air transat instead!!!
Gemma
You had to pay for checked luggage, no meals were provided! You also require a tablet with the west jet connect app to have any form of tv entertainment on their flight!
Mike
Isn't that better than a small screen on the seat back?
Tayla
Headed to London via air transat in early October. This is great info! Have had some glitches with their app, but customer service has been solid so far.
Darla
We flew with them to London. They were great. They treat kids awesome, she got free snacks if you sign up with the kids club. They had her go see the cockpit and invited us up to take photo's of her. They seemed to always be feeding us too.

I did look at klm as they have a good reputation but it wasnt direct home air transat is the only one i have found so far direct there and back we are doing alot in 2 weeks so trying to make as many direct flights as possible but still looking into it all
thanks everyone!

air transat
Be careful with luggage weights, they are pretty strict.
They chareg for pre-assigned seats (so does westjet and british airways)
Their aircraft got a new cabin last year, so they have the LED mood-lightning that helps with jetlag, they also have new seat back touch screen entertainment as well (similar to air canada)
Only down side to air transat is that should a flight be delayed, they are very limited in terms of re-routing you home. They are not a network carrier like air canada that can take you home via Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto, Montreal, etc. so if a flight is delayed 4 hours...your only option is too wait really!
Pauline
Used it to go to England this summer. Good service and food.
Jennifer
We used them but chose to fly business class.. Loved it
Liisa
We did that with them to mexico in the spring was bit pricey but we loved it too
Kristen
We have always flown air transat to England but this summer we thought we'd give westjet a chance (being a local airline and all) it was terrible!! Delayed/change of flight (by 3 hours) no food, no entertainment. We booked early so we didn't have to pay for luggage but you do now. AirTransat has direct flights at really reasonable prices and you get a meal and 1 checked bag and movies/tv in every seat back! Highly recommend, and we always book online and have never had a problem!
Linda
We flew air transat to Amsterdam 8 years ago and did not like it at all, not enough legroom. I was stuck, let alone for my husband who is 6.4. Maybe it changed but I'm not taking my chances again. We just flew west jet to London and it was okay, price was great thought. klm is great, but more expensive. Take a look at iceland air as well, good prices and you can stay over in Reykjavik for a couple of days if you like.

^^ air transat upgraded their fleet a few years ago. The old air transat planes were sardine cans and outdated. They're a lot better now!
Kari
good to know b/ c i was thinking the same thing. Ended up in the middle of the middle 10 years ago and it was a awful experience and i have short short legs. The worst part was the person in front of me reclined back as far as he could for the entire flight
Chris
Yep, it was pretty brutal. If you dropped something on the ground, there was no chance of getting it back. Not enough room to bend down
Maz
Flew to London with them. Seats were so tight amd my food was long expired. Also horrible customer service. Would not reccomend them.
Gary
I'll add my 2 cents. We travelled Transat to France recently. I didn't have high expectations but was pleasantly surprised. Decent meal, attentive flight attendants, good experience. I have no reservations in recommending them.
Casey
I had a good experience on the way there, not so great service coming back.
Terrylee
Good was beyond disgusting take your own food the price was good so I guess it was worth it.
Aisling
just used them a month ago to fly over and back from London. Love them, PS if you are ok with dropping an extra 40 per person at the very back of the plane they have about 10 rows of 2 seats each side which are beyond comfortable and the first set has more leg room so get that one if you can. The only thing i didn't like compared to the last time i flew with them (3 years ago) the menu is now the Euro Bistro (basically a sandwich) if you are in anyway picky grab some snacks before you get on the plane and have something decent to eat! Flight wise though can't complain staff is very nice
Christie
Travelled to Europe with them 3 times. I recommend them but get The Options Plus for an extra charge. More perks, bigger bags and seat selection. Highly recommend.

Flying Air Transat to Europe: What to Expect
Looking for an affordable and direct flight option to Europe from Calgary? Air Transat might just be the answer you're seeking. With great prices and non-stop routes, like Calgary to Amsterdam and Paris to Calgary, this Canadian airline is undoubtedly an attractive choice. But what can you expect in terms of service and amenities on these long-haul flights across the Atlantic?
Onboard Experience
If you've flown Air Transat to destinations like Mexico before, you're already familiar with their no-frills approach. However, when it comes to transatlantic flights, the airline steps up its game to ensure a comfortable journey.
One of the most frequently asked questions is whether food and drinks are included in the ticket price. The good news is that on flights to Europe, Air Transat provides complimentary meals and beverages, including wine, beer, and non-alcoholic options.
The meals are designed to cater to various dietary preferences, so you can expect options like vegetarian, gluten-free, or Halal meals upon request. While the food might not be gourmet-level, it's generally decent and filling, ensuring you don't go hungry during your flight.
Cabin Comforts
Air Transat's fleet for European routes consists of Airbus A330 and A310 aircraft, which offer a standard economy class cabin layout. The seats are relatively comfortable, with a decent pitch (legroom) for an economy cabin. However, if you're a taller passenger or prefer more personal space, you might want to consider upgrading to their Club Class or opting for exit row seats.
Each seat is equipped with a personal entertainment system, allowing you to watch movies, TV shows, or listen to music during your flight. The entertainment selection is decent, though not as extensive as some major international carriers.
Service and Extras
While Air Transat doesn't offer the same level of luxury as some premium airlines, the service is generally friendly and efficient. The flight attendants are attentive and will ensure you have everything you need during your journey.
It's worth noting that certain amenities, such as in-flight Wi-Fi or power outlets, might be available at an additional cost. Additionally, while Air Transat allows one free checked bag, any additional luggage will incur extra fees.
Value for Money
Overall, if you're looking for an affordable and direct flight option to Europe from Calgary, Air Transat can be an excellent choice. While the experience might not be as luxurious as some higher-end carriers, the airline offers a comfortable and reasonably priced way to cross the Atlantic. With complimentary meals, beverages (including wine), and personal entertainment, you'll have everything you need to make your transatlantic journey enjoyable.
