If you could go to one city for a week anywhere in the world, where would you go and stay? Broad question I know.....Not looking for a tropical vacation...more of a historical, beautiful place to venture out and see. No snow though...lol

Thanks for all the responses...it has been amazing to read and get ideas for now and future trips. We are hopefully using points to fly, and have decided that London would be great for us and our 13 year old son. That being said...any advice for there would be appreciated! We are going to stay most of the time in Reading, as we have connections there, but would like a night or 2 in London....anywhere central and inexpensive to stay there???? Around most of the main sites? Also, Harry Potter tour worth it??? Thanks everyone!!!!! Oh and now we have more bucket list places due to all the response!!!!

So much to see and do in London! For historical sites, I highly recommend the Churchill War Rooms. I went as a twelve year old on a family trip 30 years ago, and remember the impact it had on me.

As for accommodations, London is expensive, pretty much no matter where you stay, especially the more central you are. The last time I was there, I booked this apartment for a decent price, compared to hotel room prices, and got way more amenities.

I loved the Harry Potter tour, the place was huge, so there's a lot to see, and the crowds weren't crazy. The studios are actually in Watford, which is outside of London (probably a 20 minute train)and then you have to get a bus to the studios (an additional 15-20 minutes). I imagine this whole journey from Reading would take quite some time (approx 1 hour from Reading to London, and then the train/bus to the tour - factoring train waits and changes it could take up to two hours).
In terms of accommodation, London has great transit, so I wouldn't worry too much about staying central, just so long as you're close to a tube station. It would be much cheaper to stay near stations in the zone 2-3 area, and depending on where that is, it'll be a 20-30 minute journey. Feel free to message me if you like to know more about the areas to stay in

If I Could Go to One City for a Week...

If I had the opportunity to travel to one city for a week, I would choose to visit Kyoto, Japan. Kyoto is a city steeped in history and culture, with beautiful temples, traditional tea houses, and stunning gardens to explore.

During my week in Kyoto, I would stay in a traditional ryokan, a Japanese inn known for its hospitality and serene atmosphere. I would spend my days visiting iconic landmarks such as Kinkaku-ji (the Golden Pavilion), Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine, and Arashiyama Bamboo Grove.

One of the highlights of my trip would be attending a traditional tea ceremony and trying out kaiseki, a multi-course meal that showcases the art of Japanese cuisine. I would also take the opportunity to visit Nijo Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and immerse myself in the rich history of the city.

Exploring Kyoto's narrow alleyways and charming neighborhoods, I would soak in the sights and sounds of this ancient city. From the bustling markets to the peaceful Zen gardens, Kyoto offers a perfect blend of old-world charm and modern amenities.

Overall, Kyoto would be the ideal destination for a week-long adventure filled with history, beauty, and cultural experiences. It is a place where tradition meets modernity, and where every corner holds a story waiting to be discovered.
