Ideas for a hot destination in November? Shying away from all inclusive would love to find a great hotel near a beach with a local area to explore good restaurants , cafes , snorkeling and Safe. Not looking for dance/club scene. Something without horrendous flights from YYC

Check out Coco Beach in Costa Rica. Fly into Liberia and either take a taxi or bus (bus is only $2-3)
M&M Beach Hotel is cozy, affordable and right on the beach. Coco is super walkable.

Maui in November. Lots of great snorkeling. We go every year - and the humpbacks start to show up around that time.

Sayulita is a great place! Just a 30 minute bus/taxi from Puerto Vallarta airport (direct flights for cheap) but a much different feel, no big hotels but lots of boutique hotels and hostels and AirBnB.

Love Sayulita for surfing, beach, restaurants but snorkelling sucked in July. Maybe better in Nov? Booked vacation rental by owner. Lots of beach front accommodations.

Only been there once, actually going back in Nov/Dec this year! I think airbnb has the best value. We stayed here and it was amazing! Very unique, hand-built rooms, two smaller pools and areas to relax around the property, a bit of an uphill walk from the beach (~10 mins) but quiet at night and safe. https://www.airbnb.ca/rooms/14959985

Vincent-Shauna Crowley went with my spouse and 2 kids and rented a house. Fabulous. Owners were so accommodating. Low season so gave us a golf cart to use, boogie boards, beach chairs, even a cell phone after a minor medical incident. Lots of great places to stay.

Check out "long stays" in Europe. Air and apartment generally for three weeks. November is perfect because that's when the hotels have a high vacancy rate and just want to fill rooms (with kitchen). We usually leave a few days early and do a stop over in the city where we change planes (Paris anyone?). Inexpensive way to go if you are on a beer budget and not particular about destination. Check out "Travel Lady" website.

That trip is few years off yet, we don't have three weeks

Too bad because it is an inexpensive way to travel. Checked out some websites and length of visit really varies, some up to 90 days. Quite a few in Mexico. Have fun planning your vacation.

Casa Kimberley in Rincon de Guayabitos. It is a B & B with a phenomenal hostess. We are returning in February for a month. Lots of great restaurants, incredible walkability, two small villages to explore, beach is 3km one way and if you want to snorkel there is an island off shore for that. YYC-PVR then can to Rincon

Love Maui, just get in your car and explore, no planning ahead (unless you want to see the sunrise from the volcano), a variety of topography, giant turtles, whales, sea kayaking. But if you want night life, it’s not really the place to go.

Ambergris Caye Belize - Belize Barrier reef is the second largest reef in the world. Most amazing snorkeling. Very safe, amazing food and westjet has direct flights to Belize city in November. Then you take a smaller plane or a water taxi to the island. We love it!

Costa Rica is hit or miss in November for rain. Oct and Nov are generally the rainiest months. Both last year and the year before there were heavy rains. However, if you can put up with a warm rain, then CR is pretty awesome.

Profile picture of Carol

We couldn’t find any good snorkelling anywhere in Costa Rica last year. Kevin do you know of good snorkelling where the water in’t rough?

Profile picture of Kevin

Kevin

Carol, the rough water and rip tides are a big problem, that's for sure. Isla Tortuga in the Gulf of Nicoya has some good snorkeling. I have also been on a snorkel tour just outside of Tamarindo. Both were calm locations.

My husband and I recently bought plane tix-only to SAN (San Diego, CA, USA) for $606cad for the two of us (we depart tomorrow). That is a steal of a deal for near last minute. We used cc points to book our hotel and car rental making the trip that much less painful to the wallet.
I second the COSTA RICA Rica suggestion, last year I booked us round trip flights and hotel for $1600 (total for the two of us) for 6 days.

Idyllic Beach Getaway: November's Hotspot

As the chilly winds start to whip across Calgary, it's the perfect time to escape the cold and bask in the warmth of a tropical paradise. If you're looking for a hot destination in November that offers a blend of relaxation, adventure, and local charm, look no further than the mesmerizing island of Cozumel, Mexico.

Cozumel: A Tropical Gem in the Caribbean

Situated just off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula, Cozumel boasts pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, and a vibrant local culture. With its convenient proximity to Calgary, you can bid farewell to horrendous flights and instead enjoy a relatively short journey to this Caribbean paradise.

Accommodations Fit for Paradise

Shying away from all-inclusive resorts, Cozumel offers a plethora of charming boutique hotels and resorts that cater to your desire for a more intimate and authentic experience. Consider staying at the Secrets Aura Cozumel, a luxurious adults-only resort nestled on the stunning shores of Cozumel's west coast. With its beachfront location, infinity pools, and world-class amenities, this resort promises a truly indulgent escape.

Exploring the Local Scene

Beyond the confines of your hotel, Cozumel offers a wealth of opportunities to immerse yourself in the local culture. Stroll through the charming streets of San Miguel, the island's main town, and discover a vibrant array of restaurants, cafes, and shops. Indulge in authentic Mexican cuisine at cozy eateries like La Choza, or sip on a refreshing margarita while enjoying the ocean breeze at one of the beachside cafes.

Underwater Adventures

Cozumel is a snorkeler's paradise, with its clear waters teeming with vibrant marine life. Head to iconic spots like Paradise Beach or El Cielo, where you can drift along and marvel at the colorful coral reefs and schools of tropical fish. For those seeking a more immersive experience, consider booking a guided snorkeling tour that takes you to the island's best-kept secrets.

Safety and Serenity

Cozumel is widely regarded as one of the safest destinations in Mexico, ensuring a worry-free vacation for you and your loved ones. With its welcoming locals, well-maintained tourist areas, and a strong police presence, you can relax and fully embrace the island's laid-back charm without any concerns.

So, if you're seeking a hot destination in November that offers a perfect blend of sun, sand, and local culture, look no further than Cozumel. With its convenient accessibility from Calgary, stunning natural beauty, and abundance of activities, this tropical gem promises an unforgettable escape from the winter chill.
