There was an amazing christmas light display in Hiroshima for Christmas last time I was there. It was on the main street in Hiroshima, can't miss it, we stayed at the Crowne Plaza, it was nice, included breakfast, was close to everything. Miyajima was fun for a day trip from Hiroshima, you take a ferry there-pretty little island, famous water Tori there. Go see the aquarium in Osaka-it it top notch, lots of cheap hotels in Osaka but not much to do there, mostly a port/industrial city(we went only to see the aquarium-they have whale sharks). I would spend the most time in Kyoto personally, I think there is the most to see there.

In Kyoto, someplace near Nishiki market would be fairly central and have easy access to the subway lines.
Donna
Do you need to carry a lot of yen or is it easier to pull money out when you are there?
Sherene
There are 7-11s with cash machines everywhere in all the big cities.
Sherene
That being said, while you can use credit cards in bigger stores I found that cash was the main thing I used. Ended up going to the ATM more times than I thought I would.
Donna
I am getting a lesson here. 7-11s were not in my mind at all!
Sherene
Donna 7-11s in Japan are way better than the ones in Canada. Their ATMs were really reliable and they always have a wall of decent-tasting onigiri - excellent for a quickie meal or snack.

Husband and I honeymooned in Japan and loved both Tokyo and Kyoto. We stayed at the Citadines Karasuma-Gojo Kyoto. We loved it there and found that it had easy access to the train, food bazaar and one of the largest wooden temples in Japan. Enjoy your trip!
(I tried to link the hotel but it didn’t work)
Donna
Thank you!

Iwatayama Monkey Park in Kyoto is so much fun to go to! Definitely recommend it (along with the other suggestions above!)
Donna
Sounds like fun!

We did an airbnb in Tokyo which was really great but a bit difficult to navigate... Freshi was the name I think ... big hotel chain there it was great
