Should I book my Vegas hotel and airfare as a package or separately?

Question:

Planning a trip to Vegas for 3 nights. Is it best / cheaper to book the hotel as a package with my airfare? Or book directly with the hotel? Or thru a website like Expedia? We are flying Allegiant out of Bellingham.

Lol.
That's like asking what's the right height to put my mirror, too many variables.
When are you going? What area do you want to be in? Strip or downtown?
Do you want a gambling hotel, luxury, inexpensive, etc

Going July 24-27. We usually stay around Mirage / TI. We are thinking at Aria. Thanks!

If you're flying Allegiant, you need to book a package on their website if you go the package route, pretty sure none of the booking websites offer them (at least Expedia doesn't)

If your flying Allegiant make sure you have the day after your scheduled to return off for when there plane breaks down and you have to stay an extra night.

Allegiant is phasing out those old MD80 aircraft with newer A319 and A320's. I flew with them last trip and it was pleasant. My only complaint is all the extra fees.

I've never flown with them. What are all the extra fees? Do you mean the food, beverage and luggage fees?

STAY AWAY FROM EXPEIDIA. Just had a HORRIBLE experience with them, and almost right away my sister had another terrible experience. Their website says all over it that your hotels are fully refundable but then after everything is confirmed- its not. talk about a nightmare of a company and an expensive way to loose $800. I've had great suscess using allegant and flying out of bellingham and book my hotel through them. great deals.

Might want to elaborate why they're bad.
As tons have had good experiences w/ them

I thought I did... Their website says that hotels are fully refundable in the event you need to cancel. When I needed to (last week) I contacted the hotel directly to ask them if I could cancel my reservation, the receptionist said that was no problem at all but then she looked into my reservation and realized it was booked through Expedia and she said I needed to call them to cancel. When I called Expedia a voice (sounded like someone in India with children screaming in the background) told me that my hotel was not refunable, but I argued and said thats not possible as their website says "free cancellations" (see my screen shot picture below) the voice then told me to look at my confirmation email where it says "This reservation is non-refundable and cannot be cancelled or changed." (See screen shot below of my email) I argued and said that is false advertising and TBH I was flipping out, asked to speak to the on duty supervisor and demanded a full refund. My sister on the other hand wasnt as fortunate as me, as she has a milder demeanor than I do and let them charge her in full for her cancelled hotel. EVEN THOUGH the hotels (two different hotels) both said they had no problem with us needing to cancel our reservations. In the end I was able to fight for my sisters full refund as well. But they obviously get away with this crap all the time and it is WRONG. Up until I had a family situation that ended up with me and my sister needing to cancel our plans I have had no issues with Expedia either. But after going through this ordeal, I will NEVER EVER use them or refer them to anyone.

Also in a candid conversation with the GM of the hotel I ended up staying at she said they deal with situations like this with Expedia all the time. In fact she had just come from a conference with General Managers of hotels all across Canada and everyone there had tons of complaints about costumers using Expedia and then hotels unable to fulfill what Expedia promised, or other situations like mine. for example Expedia website booking too many people in 1 room (against certain provincial laws, and families arriving and being denied by hotel, but the hotels website clearly states information like that but Expedia doesn't. Anyway I was opened up to a whole new perspective on Expedia, and they are not all they are cracked up to be... end of rant lol. Hopefully this elaborated enough for ya

You can't cancel certain rate types, maybe that's how they got you.
Sucky either way

Ya the point is my hotel said I could cancel, but the confirmation email is when it changed to no longer being a refundable booking. Either way- sucky yes. Reputable companies shouldn't have a loop hole that can screw their customers like that. Guess that's why so many hotel companies are against them.

Also Have to be aware of when cancellations can be done by for the hotel on Expedia. I got screwed with that with a Whistler booking

I always book airfare and hotel separately. I find it's more flexible with the flight departure. I play myVegas game so I earn some free stuff for Vegas

Likely cheaper to book through a third party, like Expedia. But you will get better terms and conditions (and service) when booking direct with the hotel. But you never know, if you contact the hotel directly, ask about any promotions and such.

I got a better deal by calling he hotel company directly.

That's only good for last minute and only if you use hidden hotel. Your better to use betterbidding.com. Vegas pricing can change drastically overnight.

We book air/hotel through Allegiant all the time. We just returned yesterday from Vegas. The flight was great! Bellingham to Vegas definitely use Allegiant!

Profile picture of Phyllis

Phyllis

Done both but you can get cheap rates in Vegas at this time of year.....great hotels for less than $50 a night and they are not per person. When you get the flight and hotel each person pays so you are both paying for the room!!

Has anyone parked their car at the Bellingham airport and went to Vegas?
Thinking about doing that. Is it safe lol

Go mid week and book package deal - they are usually cheaper.

Profile picture of Malcolm

Malcolm

With allegiant xtra fees and then converting to the exchange rate is no longer cheaper. You may save $50 but for the inconvenience wesjet usually have great seat sale and that the best time to book with hotel under wesjet vacation from yvr. When booking Allegiant. Book 1 person with hotel and separate airfare without hotel for second person. You'll pay much cheaper this way. All hotels in Vegas automatically accommodates 4 people per room , even for King bed rooms.

Get Total Rewards card from any Caesar Palace hotel chain like Paris Paris The Rio The Flamingo. THE link. Etc.. the card is free . When you get home .. register your TR card and they will give you 80%-90% off or 5 to 10 free nights at the Flamingo for the first time on your next trip.

Planning a Trip to Vegas: Best Way to Book Hotel

You're planning a trip to Las Vegas for 3 nights and you're wondering what the best way to book your hotel is. Here are a few options to consider:

Booking a package with your airfare

This can be a convenient option, but it's not always the cheapest. When you book a package, you're typically paying for your airfare, hotel, and sometimes other amenities like rental cars or show tickets. The advantage of booking a package is that it can save you time and hassle, but it may not always be the best deal. Be sure to compare prices before you book a package to make sure you're getting the best value for your money.

Booking directly with the hotel

This is another option to consider, and it can sometimes be cheaper than booking a package. When you book directly with the hotel, you're only paying for your hotel room. However, you'll need to arrange your own airfare and transportation to and from the airport. This can be a good option if you're looking for a more flexible travel experience, or if you're on a budget.

Booking through a website like Expedia

This is a convenient option, and it can sometimes be cheaper than booking directly with the hotel. Websites like Expedia offer a wide variety of hotel options, and they often have discounts and promotions that you can't get when you book directly with the hotel. However, it's important to compare prices before you book through a website to make sure you're getting the best deal.

Which option is best for you?

The best way to book your hotel in Las Vegas depends on your budget, your travel preferences, and your flexibility. If you're looking for a convenient and budget-friendly option, booking a package with your airfare may be a good choice. If you're looking for a more flexible travel experience, or if you're on a budget, booking directly with the hotel or through a website like Expedia may be a better option.

No matter which option you choose, be sure to compare prices before you book to make sure you're getting the best deal.
