Look for advice on backpacking India between November and December. I'm going to be traveling solo in the northern part of the country. Should I book my train tickets in advance or when I arrive?

Advance man. All train tickets are always waitlisted at the last minute. Also u will need a local indian number to book tickets online. Since the govt verifies phone number before u can register to book.

Thanks for the advice. Any idea how I can get an Indian phone number to book tickets?

You don't need an Indian Phone number. You can register an account and book on ClearTrip. Look up 'booking train on cleartrip' in Google.

Backpacking India in November and December

Should I book my train tickets in advance or when I arrive?

This is a common question for travelers who are planning to backpack India. There are a few factors to consider when making this decision.

One factor to consider is the time of year you are traveling. November and December are considered the peak tourist season in India. During this time, trains can be very crowded and it can be difficult to get tickets on the spot. If you are traveling during this time, it is recommended to book your train tickets in advance.

Another factor to consider is your budget. If you are on a tight budget, booking your train tickets in advance may not be the best option. Train tickets can be expensive, especially if you are traveling in AC class. If you are on a budget, you may want to wait and book your tickets when you arrive in India.

Finally, you should also consider your flexibility. If you are flexible with your travel plans, you may be able to get away with booking your train tickets when you arrive in India. However, if you have a set itinerary, it is best to book your train tickets in advance.

Overall, the decision of whether or not to book your train tickets in advance is a personal one. There are a few factors to consider when making this decision, such as the time of year you are traveling, your budget, and your flexibility.

Here are some tips for booking your train tickets in advance:

  • Book your tickets as far in advance as possible.
  • Use a reputable website or travel agent.
  • Be prepared to pay a higher price for AC class tickets.
  • Have your passport and visa information ready when you book your tickets.

Here are some tips for booking your train tickets when you arrive in India:

  • Go to the train station in person and ask about availability.
  • Be prepared to wait in line.
  • Be flexible with your travel plans.
  • Be aware of scams.
