Hello! Anyone have must-do & must-eat suggestions for South Korea this June? I saw some great ideas in a previous post but in addition to Seoul (5 full days) and Busan (3 full days), we are going to Jeonju (2 full days) and a day trip to Boseong green tea fields. All suggestions welcome, this will be our first time there. Thanks in advance!!

I used to live in Sokcho (known for its fish markets) and proximity to Seoraksan National Park. I highly recommend making the trip up North. There are tons of beautiful hikes to do in Seoraksan. You can do day hikes or overnight hikes. I highly recommend doing a multi day hike and staying in a shelter... it’s a very unique experience in comparison to backpacking in Canada. The shelter is a large matted room. You can rent blankets and buy ramen meals. You’ll find communal sharing is common in Korea, so bring extra snacks to share and you’ll find people will share in return. There are lots of blogs on hiking in the park. If you decide to go, make sure you work on your fitness to experience the best hikes/sights. https://www.google.ca/.../seoraksan-hiking-guide.../amp/

"Up North" meaning the northern part of South Korea, not North Korea, right? I've heard that Seoraksan is beautiful - when I was living in Seoul, my students always recommended it as a holiday destination.

sokcho is one of my fave destinations in south korea

Yes, "north" as in the north part of South Korea... North Korea being a completely different country and being inaccessible from South Korea. But worth it to go to the DMZ for the experience.

Thanks Monique for your input! We were on the fence about doing a day trip to Sokcho, would you recommend it just for a day? I don’t think we’ll have enough time to spend multiple days there unfortunately

I think so. Personally I would cut back on the time that you spend in Seoul... but I always prefer to get "off the beaten path" when I travel and to get out of the city. I think 5 days in Seoul is way more than you need. The great thing about Sokcho is that you can hike in the mountains and swim in the ocean all in the same day. I haven't lived there since 2005 and I'm sure the town has changed, but the mountains and beach should be pretty much the same (although I noticed they now have a gondola... you used to have to hike to see the views).
