You haven't been to either place? If so, stay in Sydney & explore. My first trip to the region, I stayed in Auckland NZ 3 days & Sydney 4 days but not something I would recommended. I thought I would never return to the region so I did that on purpose
I actually returned both cities
Nary
If you have been to both places then just stay in Sydney because it's warmer & more foods to eat

There is lots to see in Sydney, Australia. Book a Blue Mountains tour, it's worth it
Tera
Vickie agreed! I went skiing when I was there in ‘89

Vickie Thank you. I took a quick look at Blue Mountain Tours and there are so many different combinations and different companies. Do you remember who you went with?
Vickie
Group member I’ll try to find it & let you know
Vickie
Group member I found it!!! The company is called OZ TRAILS. I hope they are still offering this fabulous day tour
Anonymou
Vickie So great!! Thank you!
Cathy
Stay in Sydney.
Cat
Stay in Sydney. It's a cool city with lots to do, and New Zealand deserves much longer than one week. Also, they're not as close as people think they are - the flight more than 3 hours. That's farther than Vancouver to Winnipeg, for reference.
Curtis
Stay in Sydney. It’s really easy to fill a week. We just got back from Australia - HIGHLY recommend the coastal walk from Bondi to Coogee.
Anonymou
Curtis thank you! Do you have any suggestions on hotels?
Curtis
Group member depends on your budget. Shop around and keep an eye on prices, we stayed at Rydges Circular Quay when the price had dropped and it was fantastic. Older hotel, but great location, and a rooftop pool with views of the Opera House.
Anonymou
Group member thanks for the info. I love the area and booked a room at the Rydges.
Anonymou
Thank you all! Should we rent a car? Any other suggestions much appreciated?
Cat
Transit is good in the city - they have a Seabus-type system that goes all over the place. You could look at renting a car for a day or two if you want to take a couple of day trips outside the city, but Australia is VERY expensive and I don't want to think out how much parking in the city centre would cost you.
Anonymou
Cat thank you
. I appreciate this info. We walk a lot so maybe we will forgo the car rental

Exploring Sydney or New Zealand After Your Hawaii to Sydney Cruise
Congratulations on your upcoming cruise from Hawaii to Sydney, Australia! It sounds like an amazing adventure. Now, the question of where to go after your cruise is a great one. Both Sydney and New Zealand offer unique experiences and stunning landscapes, so let's weigh the options.
Staying in Sydney
Sydney is a vibrant city with iconic landmarks such as the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge. You can explore the historic Rocks area, relax on Bondi Beach, or take a ferry to Manly. The city also offers a variety of cultural attractions, delicious dining options, and shopping opportunities. If you enjoy city life and want to immerse yourself in Australian culture, staying in Sydney for a week could be a fantastic choice.
Flying to New Zealand
New Zealand is known for its breathtaking natural beauty, including fjords, mountains, and pristine lakes. If you're a nature lover and enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking, or bungee jumping, New Zealand might be the perfect destination for you. You could explore the North Island's geothermal wonders or the South Island's stunning landscapes. Keep in mind that New Zealand is a larger country than Australia, so you may need to choose a specific region to focus on during your week-long stay.
Other Options
If you're torn between Sydney and New Zealand, you could also consider combining both destinations. You could spend a few days in Sydney before flying to New Zealand for the remainder of your trip. This way, you get to experience the best of both worlds.
Conclusion
Ultimately, the decision of whether to stay in Sydney or fly to New Zealand depends on your preferences and interests. Both destinations offer incredible experiences, so you can't go wrong either way. Consider what you want to get out of your post-cruise vacation and choose the option that aligns best with your travel goals.

We are cruising from Hawaii to Sydney, Australia this October/November.
We want to stay approximately 1 week after the cruise to tour around. Would you stay in Sydney? Or fly to New Zealand? Or?? (We’ve been to neither place)
