Wondering if a 5-day island hop trip to Oahu and Maui is too ambitious?

Question:

Has anyone ever done an island hop trip to Hawaii? Looking at an island hop Oahu/Maui through Costco travel, but wondering if it’s too much to try to do two islands in one trip 5 days each? Anyone have any insight?

If it is just a 10 day trip, personally I would just stick to one island instead of essentially losing a day and $$ in the transition

You can actually take a 2 hr ferry between the islands as an option. Something to look into if you want to avoid another trip to the airport in the middle of your vacation.

I think that's too much for a 5-day trip. Oahu has everything you need and more. Try doing a few nights in Waikiki and a few nights in Ko Olina or Turtle Bay. Both are very different areas on a beautiful island.

Ladena Ko Olina has Aulani a Disney resort. Check some of the Disney points like Daves vacation rentals. I used them for Aulani and it was amazing.

Ladena we love Disney Aulani too. Found the weather system there a little different and more overcast and rain there but was really enjoyable.

We went to Oahu for 10 days and didn’t come close to doing everything we wanted to do. I would not split it, there is just so much to see, not to mention time needed to just relax and enjoy the beach!

Tania we decided on a cheaper hotel with kitchenette since we were out almost all day everyday. We stayed at the Luana Waikiki. It had a nice (but small) pool, some nice inclusions. The rooms were comfortable but old and needing updating.
If we went again I’d stay at Turtle Bay on the north shore, or the Sheraton Waikiki (beachfront location). The Hilton Hawaiian Village also looked nice and the beach beside it was my favorite in Waikiki.

Chelsea we're going too and staying at the Outrigger Reef. Concierge is super helpful and have been giving me lots of ideas of things to do.

Some much to see and do on both Islands, you need at least 5 days for each!

Island Hopping in Hawaii: Oahu and Maui in 5 Days

Are you considering an island hop trip to Hawaii? If so, you're in for a treat! Hawaii is a beautiful state with a lot to offer visitors, and island hopping is a great way to see multiple islands in a short amount of time.

One popular island hop itinerary is to visit Oahu and Maui. Oahu is home to Honolulu, the state capital, and Waikiki Beach, a world-famous tourist destination. Maui is known for its stunning beaches, lush rainforests, and active volcanoes.

If you're thinking about island hopping to Oahu and Maui, you're probably wondering if it's too much to try to do two islands in one trip. The answer is: it depends.

If you're only interested in seeing the highlights of each island, then it's possible to do two islands in five days. However, if you want to really explore each island and get a feel for the local culture, then you may want to consider spending more time on each island.

Here is a possible itinerary for a 5-day island hop to Oahu and Maui:

  • Day 1: Arrive in Honolulu and check into your hotel. Spend the day exploring Waikiki Beach and the surrounding area.
  • Day 2: Take a day trip to Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona Memorial. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Hawaiian luau.
  • Day 3: Fly to Maui and check into your hotel. Spend the afternoon relaxing on Ka'anapali Beach.
  • Day 4: Take a road trip to Haleakala National Park and hike to the summit of Haleakala Volcano. In the evening, go stargazing at the summit.
  • Day 5: Spend the day snorkeling or scuba diving in Molokini Crater. In the evening, enjoy a sunset cruise along the coast.

This itinerary is just a suggestion, of course. You can customize it to fit your interests and budget.

Here are some tips for planning your island hop trip:

  • Book your flights and accommodations in advance, especially if you're traveling during peak season.
  • Consider purchasing a rental car to get around each island.
  • Pack light so you can easily move between islands.
  • Be prepared for rain, especially during the winter months.
  • Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat to protect yourself from the sun.

Island hopping in Hawaii is an amazing experience that you'll never forget. With a little planning, you can easily see multiple islands in a short amount of time.
