Google and facebook don't work in China unless you put a VPN on your systems. I downloaded gooogle translate so I can comununicate and a an ofline navigation apk. Had a lot of trouble comunicating in English, they nodded and indicated they understood then did the exact oposite.
Walter
Verbal communication is not a problem because I'm a native Cantonese speaker and can speak enough Mandarin to get by.

Global Connectivity for a Trip to Beijing and Hong Kong
Introduction
As a frequent traveler, you're considering investing in a global mobile hotspot or data SIM for your upcoming trip to Beijing and Hong Kong. This article will provide information on connectivity options, data plans, and deals that may meet your needs.
Mobile Hotspot vs. Data SIM
Mobile Hotspot:
- Creates a portable Wi-Fi network for multiple devices.
- Can be rented or purchased from providers like Skyroam or GlocalMe.
- Typically offers unlimited data but may have speed or usage limits.
Data SIM:
- Inserts into your smartphone, providing local data connectivity.
- Can be purchased from local carriers or international roaming providers like Airalo or Holafly.
- Offers specific data plans with varying amounts and speeds.
Data SIM Options for Beijing and Hong Kong
KeepGo:
- Offers 4G LTE speeds in mainland China but not in Hong Kong.
- Does not allow tethering.
Airalo:
- Provides eSIMs for data-only connectivity.
- Offers plans for China (including Hong Kong) with varying amounts of data and speeds.
- Allows tethering.
Holafly:
- Offers physical SIM cards for global connectivity.

Taking a short trip end of July YVR -> 3 nights in Beijing -> 3 nights in HK -> 1 night in Beijing -> YVR. Don't need any help with what to see/visit, but need help with connectivity.
I'm a somewhat frequent traveller looking at possibly investing in a global mobile hotspot, or maybe a global data SIM if it allows tethering. I've been using keepgo SIM, but noticed I'm not going to get 4G speed in HK, and it doesn't allow for tethering. Anybody know of some deals for decent amount of data? I'm also planning a trip early next year for Central America if that helps with deciding best deals.
