We did a supper with a local. Went to their home where we made traditional sushi and he made us matcha tea. Lots of visiting. Topped it off with a visit to the grocery store where they showed us the ingredients to buy. Wonderful experience.

If you are going to other places in Japan, try Koya mountain. Stay in a monastery and do a
night tour of sacred cemetery.

I just read a really great book called Clueless in Tokyo - it's gorgeously illustrated and might give you some slightly off the beaten track ideas.

Explore the Colorful World of Kawaii Culture

Tokyo is the epicenter of kawaii (cute) culture, and there are numerous places where you can immerse yourself in this quirky phenomenon. Visit the Kawaii Monster Café, where you'll be surrounded by vibrant and whimsical decor, and indulge in themed drinks and desserts.
