We’re wondering if any one has recommendations for renting a car in September in Spain. We have had a variety of quotes it’s hard to figure it out. We don’t need collision as our Visa covers that but we do ne d liability for driver and passenger. Any suggestions would be SO VERY appreciated! We will rent for 22 days

If you are eligible and obtain road star or road star plus form icbc it includes travel liability (and it’s not a one time thing and cheap).

I believe that only applies to rentals within North America . We were told it wouldn’t cover us in Europe.

if you get an american express platinum travel credit card you get a credit towards travel plus insurance for rental vehicles. I called them when I was renting a car in Spain to make sure. first year is free, no fees. I used auto europe also, most cars are standard transmission.

I used ryanair in sardiniasnd Italy as they had liability. Be careful if you don’t have that. It’s not offered with your credit cards. Only CDW is.

Last year we rented with Dollar through Hertz for our 15 day trip around Spain. It was by far the cheapest option. A few tips we learned about this company before we booked with them - take pictures of the car beforehand, make sure to document every scratch/rub/dent with the attendant BEFORE leaving. Also only have one registered driver with them, adding a second driver ended up costing more than our entire rental. We went as far as telling the attendant that I didn’t have a driver’s licence so that there would be no confusion (I have a licence but we have heard stories of other renters being charged because a second driver was present and could potentially drive). We didn’t go for the extra insurance as our credit card company covers rental insurance internationally - check with your credit card company to see if they do the same. The attendant tried to put us in a larger vehicle (an SUV) instead of the car we had reserved for no additional charge; turn this down if they offer. Spain has some very narrow streets that will not accommodate an SUV. Overall we were extremely happy with our rental since we knew what to look out for.

Terri I second getting the small car in Spain. It is impossible to even park a smaller car sometimes. I rented through Hertz as well, just booked it online while here.

auto europe or Europcar - your Visa should cover you for everything. Make sure you have a spare tire and tire iron or pump/patch kit provided and don’t let them upsell you to an SUV.

In Europe there is a mandatory insurance (included in your basic rate) for what is not covered by credit cards.

Another note but many cars in Europe are stick shifts
