If you want sunsets go with negril. I don’t know the resorts tho.

I would suggest Negril. Ocho Rios better for excursions

Have you stayed at the Beaches resort?

Yeah stayed there! It's amazing if you have the budget for it! It was really expensive but very worthwhile

I lived in Jamaica for a year and I like Negril best as it has 7 miles of beautiful beach. Downside is it takes longer to get there. Lots of good places to stay there but really like Travellers Beach Resort, close to town and good service and value especially if you stay in the little cabins.. I think they are going through a partial reno or just finished with it.

Yup, nice sunsets on a great beach in Negril. The water at the beach is very calm and easy to float on (virtually no waves, cept when there are storms) The beach is great for walking on, and some parts don't even have resorts behind them and are pretty much deserted (except for people walking the beach). You can follow the beach into Negril town, but it might be a long walk if doing a round trip (depends on your ability). We usually walk to Negril, shop, then cab it back. There are some shops and bars on the beach, near the Beaches resort, and a Margueriteville further down toward Negril. Can't speak of Ocho Rios, though, the last time we were there we swore we'd never go back to Jamaica, and yet we have been to Negril many times since.

Forgot to add, depending on traffic, the transfer from Montego Bay airport to Negril is about 90 minutes. BUT, there is an air shuttle plane from Montego bay airport to the Negril Aerodrome, about 15 minutes air time, which gives you a nice view of that part of Jamaica enroute. The cab ride from the Aerodrome to Beaches is about 5-10 minutes.

Have you stayed at the Beaches resort? If so do you recommend it? Read some negative reviews.

It's been about 10 years since I was at Beaches Negril so things could have changed but overall, here are my thoughts. Can't beat the view, the beach, the water and the sunsets. LOTS of fun for the kids so if you have them. I remember it being VERY noisy but that's because it was family -oriented. If you're good with that, chances are you'll be happy. We had an issue with the room situation and it took a lot of effort over a day or so to get it straightened (the room was overlooking the wastewater treatment plant, next to the highway. The shower was cold water only). Once we changed rooms, it was a great experience. Five or 7 years ago we went to Ochos Rios. Loved the patio and the views (again, great experience for the kids). We stayed at a room with a patio facing water. It was amazing. The only drawback is the beach is very small with large sand grains (the sand grains aren't a deal breaker, just not as nice as the Negril beach - actually, you'll never get a better beach then Negril). So if you like long walks on the beach, I'd go with Negril. We also had a great time at Ochos Rios though. Pools, etc. were all what you would expect from Beaches so if that's your thing, go for it. Babysitting, my top concern, was top-notch at both places.

I am from Jamaica, Negril is beautiful, hard to beat but there are many places in the Dominican Republic that rival Negril, such as in Punta Cana and much less crime. Murder rate in Jamaica was 20% higher in 2017 than the previous year, almost 2,000 murders, so be careful!

Nothing beats a little cottage in negril. It is actually really safe there

Jamaica Holiday: Beaches Négril vs Beaches Ocho Rios

When planning a Jamaica holiday, choosing between Beaches Négril and Beaches Ocho Rios can be a tough decision. Both resorts offer stunning beaches, luxurious accommodations, and a wide range of activities for guests to enjoy. Here are some recommendations to help you decide:

Beaches Négril

Located on the famous Seven Mile Beach in Négril, this resort is known for its beautiful white sand beaches and crystal clear waters. Beaches Négril offers a laid-back atmosphere perfect for relaxation and unwinding. The resort also features multiple pools, water sports, and a variety of dining options to choose from.

Beaches Ocho Rios

Set on the northern coast of Jamaica, Beaches Ocho Rios is a family-friendly resort with something for everyone. With numerous restaurants and bars on-site, guests will never run out of dining options.

Recommendation:

If you are looking for a more laid-back and relaxing vacation, Beaches Négril may be the perfect choice for you. On the other hand, if you prefer a resort with a wide range of activities and amenities for the whole family, Beaches Ocho Rios could be the better option.
