Are the roads to Leavenworth, WA better on hwy 2 or hwy 90? Narrow and windy vs smooth and straight.

Question:

Anyone driven hwy 2 and/or hwy 90 in Washington, USA? Going to Leavenworth. Which hwy is better? We just drove hwy 2 a few days ago and it was terrible! Narrow and windy. Is hwy 90 a better choice?

Much better, I've done it a few times and it's pretty clear sailing. Hard to stay within the speed limit!

We're towing a trailer. Is it less windy? ( I mean curvey, not windy - like the weather). Lol

Hwy 2 was awful

Once your inland it's kind of like being on the Prairies. Arid, flat and quite straight. Large, long "winds" and not windy! Check out a map!

I-90 is double lane each way, higher speed limit, but longer distance, will probably take you an hour longer to travel - still will have about an hour on a secondary highway, so much like Highway 2

An hour longer, but better hwy sounds good to me. Thanks!

If you're driving a sport's car, narrow and windy is great!

I'm sure it is.

Driving to Leavenworth: Highway 2 vs Highway 90

The Dilemma

If you're planning a trip to the charming Bavarian village of Leavenworth, Washington, you might be wondering which route to take – Highway 2 or Highway 90. Both highways offer scenic views, but they differ in terms of driving conditions and overall experience.

Highway 2: Narrow and Windy

As you mentioned, you recently drove Highway 2 and found it to be a challenging experience. This route is indeed narrow and windy, with numerous twists and turns that can be treacherous, especially for larger vehicles or those towing trailers.

Highway 2

While Highway 2 offers breathtaking views of the Cascade Mountain range and passes through quaint small towns, the winding roads and narrow shoulders can make for a stressful driving experience. It's important to exercise caution, drive at a reasonable speed, and be prepared for unexpected obstacles or delays.

Highway 90: A Smoother Ride

If you're looking for a more relaxed and straightforward journey, Highway 90 might be the better choice. This route is generally wider and less winding than Highway 2, making it a more comfortable drive for most travelers.

Highway 90

While Highway 90 may not offer the same dramatic mountain vistas as Highway 2, it still provides plenty of scenic beauty, passing through rolling hills and valleys. Additionally, the smoother ride and fewer sharp turns can make the journey less tiring, especially for those traveling with children or elderly passengers.

Conclusion

Ultimately, the choice between Highway 2 and Highway 90 will depend on your personal preferences and travel priorities. If you're seeking a more adventurous and scenic route, Highway 2 might be the way to go, provided you're comfortable with the challenging driving conditions. However, if you prioritize a smoother and more relaxed journey, Highway 90 could be the better option for your trip to Leavenworth.

Whichever route you choose, be sure to plan ahead, allow plenty of time for stops and rest breaks, and always prioritize safety on the road. Happy travels!
