Going to Europe for 3 months this summer and wondered if anyone has used the eurail pass. I plan on going to multiple location; will the 3 month unlimited global pass be worth it if i have no idea my itinerary? I tend to a jump around the place sort of traveller. Also, ideas of places to visit would be much appreciated!

I started in London then to Paris
took the overnight train to berlin.
then you can go on to Moscow if you choose
we went back all the way to zermat Switzerland
take the glacier express train through the alps
then back to Germany and Austria then down to venice Italy and wrapped up in Rome
we did all of the above in a week!
Then we got on the ship and did Egypt Greece turkey and south Italy
Pro tip the night trains are great it saves you a hotel and you wake up in a new place

My husband and I spent 3 months traveling Europe back in 2006. We bought an unlimited rail pass and it was the best thing. We had not itinerary planned ahead at all so it allowed us almost complete freedom to go wherever, whenever. There were certain sections of line or specific trains that required an additional fare but they were usually around 10 euros for the extra and it didn't happen often.

Yeah it's a great idea for the spontaneous traveller. Try to remember to make your reservations when you decide where you want to go (you have to do this prior to using your rail pass every time) so you don't find yourself high and dry. Be aware that it doesn't work for some countries... Like Slovakia if I remember correctly.

If you know the areas you would like to visit, check on flying versus train travel. Flights were much much cheaper than the train, but that was booking ahead. If you want complete flexibility and will be travelling to many locations, the train pass would probably be a better option. There are also passes that combine two countries versus the multi-country passes. Many options to check out.

I have rented a car in Europe many times. Driving there is as easy as driving here except they tend to be better drivers then we are.

If you get the pass get it on line I think it's only 20.00 and 50 if you buy it at the train station. Amsterdam is amazing.

That's a 24 hour unlimited stops.

Currently in Spain for a month

It was helpful but we found a lot of the high speed trains or inter-country trains required reservations to use.... Which cost a fee, anywhere from 5-30 euros. So make sure to account for that extra. May be easier/cheaper to book each train online as you go.

The rail pass is great, but does not work in France. Go to portugal and Germany! Both amazing places.
