Get a universal adapter for all situations. I learned the hard way. Apparently the UK is different from Greece even though the prongs line up. 100.00 hair straightener in the garbage.
Elwyn
Jo-Ann MacDonell UK is 220 ~ 240 and not in Italy

My chargers and laptop are 110/220. Hair dryers, etc are not always dual current. My curling iron is dual current, but not my hair blower. I usually don't travel with a hairdryer anyway because hotels these days have them. It is just unnecessary weight and luggage space used if I drag the hairdryer with me.
Heidi
Make sure your appliances you are plugging in are dual voltage. If you plug in something that can only handle 110, you will fry it.

We were in Praiano last summer. Take the walk of the gods tour. Amazing. Capri was ok. Positano is very busy and expensive. Praiano has nice beaches a little quieter. Def go to Vesuvius best tour in a long time.
Lori
Mike Thanks for these tips.
Was that your the walk up to the top of Vesuvius?
Mike
Lori no above Praiano and Positano is a walk that overlooks the Amalfi coastline. We got a tour bus up there and then walked the 10 kms above. It was amazing
Sharon
Most electronics allow up to 240V so you just need the plug. UK is different but Western Europe is all the two round pins
If you want to use a hair dryer or other 110 device, then just buy a 220 one over there. Even with an adapter there’s very good odds you’ll blow your dryer.
Elwyn
You don’t need a converter to 220 for phones etc but some hair dryers and curlers/straighteners need it
Katja
I use this whenever I travel. Has served me well, especially with electric toothbrush, hair dryer, etc. plus you have USB for chargers if there is more than one of you.

Katja is this converter worth it?
Katja
Carla Korpesio i have one like this that I bought 10 years ago and still use. So for me it is def worth it. We are a family of 4 and we take this with us wherever we go as you never know if you have any USB plug-in in a hotel or not and something like this will allow all of us to charge our phones. It comes with the plug for North America as well, so we even travel with it here as well.
Vicki
Carla Korpesio hotels never have enough plugs. So we always travel with something like this, even in north america.
Simon
For your phone charger. If it says 100-240V 50-60Hz you should just need the prong converter. Info for other plug. https://www.power-plugs-sockets.com/ca/italy/

Traveling to Italy: Voltage Adapters and Converters
When traveling to Italy, it's important to consider the voltage differences and whether you will need adapters and converters for your electronic devices. Italy operates on a 220-volt system, which is different from the standard 110-volt system in the United States.
If you have a 2 prong round adapter, you will be able to plug your devices into the Italian outlets without any issues. However, if your devices are not dual voltage (meaning they can handle both 110 and 220 volts), you will need a voltage converter to avoid damaging your electronics.
For phone chargers and other small electronic devices, it's recommended to check the voltage specifications on the device itself. Most modern electronics, such as smartphones and laptops, are dual voltage and will only require a plug adapter to fit into Italian outlets.
As for other tips for your trip to Italy, here are a few suggestions:
- Make sure to pack comfortable walking shoes, as you will be exploring cities like Rome and Naples on foot.
- Consider purchasing a local SIM card for your phone to avoid expensive international roaming charges.
- Try the local cuisine, including pizza in Naples, gelato in Rome, and seafood in the Amalfi Coast.
- Be prepared for crowds in popular tourist destinations, especially during peak season.
- Take advantage of public transportation, such as trains and ferries, to easily navigate between cities and islands.
With your home base in Naples and day trips planned to Rome, the Isle of Capri, and the Amalfi Coast, you are sure to have a memorable and exciting trip to Italy. Enjoy the beautiful sights, delicious food, and rich history that this Mediterranean country has to offer!
Thank you in advance for any tips and advice you can provide. Have a fantastic trip!

We are headed to Italy and wondering about voltage adapters and converters. I have an 2 prong round adapter but not sure if I will need a converter from 110 to 220 for phone chargers, etc.
Also, any other tips would be fabulous. Our home base will be Naples with day trips out to Rome, Isle of Capri and Amalfi. TIA
