CASH, whether a cruise, an island or anywhere, people want money over a random item
Kyle
TAKE YOUR GIFTS, TIPS USD MONEY WHATEVER, GO TO THE SLUMS AND DONATE IT ALL TO A SLUM MEDICAL CENTER.

They like cell phones and electronics. Airtime is cheap. Know one thing, there is a local price for things and a tourist price on the road.
Tammy
The gardeners love work gloves!!!

I am from Jamaica...and agree with (most) of the thread. Tipping generously is the biggest things. Off the resorts (if that is where you are staying) pay in local JA dollars you will usually get a better deal on things. But for tips, do it in USD. And yes, the is lots of money on the island, but it does not go to the people who do the hard REAL work & who really deserve it. Last time we went down we brought a whole bunch of soccer balls (not inflated, we also brought a pump). Because almost all the kids play football/soccer & most use whatever they can find around (including empty 2l pop bottles.) I know the balls were well receieved to the kiddies that we gave them too.

Magazines for your maid staff , that's a luxury they can't afford
Cristina
Were headed there soon and bringing some supplies for one of the local schools.

**What to Take to Jamaica from Canada: Gifts They Will Love**
When traveling to Jamaica from Canada, it's thoughtful to bring along a few gifts to share with the locals. Here are some items that are either not readily available in Jamaica or that Jamaicans particularly appreciate receiving:
Maple syrup
: This sweet and sticky treat is a Canadian staple that is not widely available in Jamaica. A bottle of maple syrup makes a great gift for anyone with a sweet tooth.Chocolate
: Jamaican chocolate is delicious, but imported chocolate from Canada is often considered to be of higher quality. A box of chocolates is a surefire way to make someone's day.Coffee:
Canadian coffee is known for its rich flavor and smooth taste. A bag of coffee beans or ground coffee is a great gift for any coffee lover in Jamaica.Cheese:
Jamaican cheese is relatively bland, so a block of sharp cheddar or a creamy brie from Canada will be a welcome treat.Canned goods:
Canned goods, such as tuna, salmon, and beans, are not as common in Jamaica as they are in Canada. A few cans of these items can be a helpful addition to a Jamaican household's pantry.School supplies:
Jamaica has a high literacy rate, but school supplies can be expensive. A pack of pens, pencils, and notebooks is a practical gift that will be greatly appreciated.Toys:
Toys are not always easy to find in Jamaica, so a new toy can be a special treat for a child.Books:
Books are also not as common in Jamaica as they are in Canada. A new book is a thoughtful gift for any reader.Clothes:
Jamaican clothing is often brightly colored and patterned, but it can be hard to find clothes in larger sizes. A few pieces of clothing from Canada in larger sizes can be a welcome gift.Money:
Jamaicans are always happy to receive cash, which can be used to buy whatever they need or want.
When choosing a gift for someone in Jamaica, it's important to consider their individual needs and preferences. However, any of the items on this list are sure to be appreciated.
