I went to the UK last year. I took my unlocked phone to Tesco and it wouldn't accept their Sim. Used Skype when I had WiFi. If you have a Skype account you can call a land line. Good luck!

I was living in London last year, and went on a month by month contract with Vodaphone. I think it was £15, and included texts, calling and data. I had no problems with their SIM card. Enjoy your time xx

I just bought a cheap Vodaphone with a pay as you go plan.

Hello Veronika, I just asked essentially the exact same question a few weeks ago and got some very helpful tips!! Here's what I'm going to do:
1. Purchase a cheap unlocked phone here (because it's cheaper than unlocking my iPhone and I'd like it to be on local settings so I can use it when I come home)
2. Buy a SIM card and a month to month plan for THREE in the UK.
3. Pay the (extremely low) roaming fees while I travel
4. Cancel plan before coming home
I have a friend in London who currently has a $20/month plan with three with unlimited calling, unl data and very minor roaming charges. That seems, by far, the best option.
Hope this helps!!
Happy travels !!

Advice Needed: Cell Phones in Europe
I'm going to be traveling to Europe for three months and I'm wondering what the best way to stay connected is. I have an unlocked phone that I can bring with me, so I'm looking for advice on cell carriers that offer multi-country cell plans or English ones that would have cheap roaming costs. I'm also considering pay-as-you-go or short-term prepaid plans. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Multi-Country Cell Plans
There are a few different cell carriers that offer multi-country cell plans. Some of the most popular options include:
- Orange Holiday Europe Pass: This plan offers unlimited calls, texts, and data in 30 European countries for €40 per month.
- Three UK Feel at Home Pass: This plan offers unlimited calls, texts, and data in 19 European countries for £15 per month.
- Vodafone Global Roaming Pass: This plan offers unlimited calls, texts, and data in 40 European countries for €15 per month.
English Cell Carriers with Cheap Roaming Costs
If you're not interested in a multi-country cell plan, you can also consider using an English cell carrier with cheap roaming costs. Some of the most popular options include:
- Giffgaff: Giffgaff is a UK-based cell carrier that offers pay-as-you-go plans with low roaming costs. You can get a SIM card for free and then add credit as needed.
- Lycamobile: Lycamobile is a UK-based cell carrier that offers prepaid plans with cheap roaming costs. You can get a SIM card for £10 and then add credit as needed.
- Lebara: Lebara is a UK-based cell carrier that offers prepaid plans with cheap roaming costs. You can get a SIM card for £10 and then add credit as needed.
Pay-as-You-Go vs. Short-Term Prepaid Plans
If you're not planning on using your phone very much, you may want to consider a pay-as-you-go plan. This will allow you to pay for only the minutes, texts, and data that you use. Short-term prepaid plans are also a good option if you're only going to be in Europe for a short period of time. These plans typically offer a set amount of minutes, texts, and data for a fixed price.
Which Option Is Right for You?
The best way to stay connected in Europe will depend on your individual needs. If you're planning on using your phone a lot, a multi-country cell plan may be the best option. If you're not planning on using your phone very much, a pay-as-you-go plan or short-term prepaid plan may be a better choice.
No matter which option you choose, be sure to do your research and compare prices before you make a decision. There are a lot of different cell carriers and plans available, so it's important to find one that fits your needs and budget.

advice needed, re: cellphones in Europe
Hi fellow travelers! I'm just looking for some advising regarding cell phones & plans in Europe. I will be in Europe for 3 months-- first two months in England and then 1 month across western Europe. I have an unlocked phone I can bring with me.
Any advice on cell carriers that offer multi-country cell plans or English ones that would have cheap roaming costs? Or advice for pay as you go vs short term prepaid plans?
Many thanks!
